Default AU1 Centre dash section in black, which models?

Hi guys,

I've got an AU1 XR8 and I want to change out the grey dash section in the middle of the dash surrounding the stereo and A/C controls. That and the grey trim above the airbag above the glove box. The attached photo shows the centre piece and some of the passenger trim.

I've swapped the seats and door trims over to AU2 black leather and now the grey dash sections do not suit the car.

Which models of AU1 came with black centre sections?

I'm in Newcastle, if you have the black centre section and you're nearby, pm me.

Cheers,

Mike.

Hi Mickcool;
While i can't help you out with a black centre dash for your au , i would be interested in buying your old centre.would it come with the heating/ait con switching and most inpotaint the digital clock. Mine is also gray and early this year i changed the factory original cassette radio over for the cd version that was fitted to some of the xr6's or xr8's. A straight swap, and the only problem was that i lost the clock that built in to the radio.
Your old one would also be a dirrect swap.......so if you are interested in selling once you have done your swap send me a message. I of course would pay for P&P as well.

So, is there a black dash with the clock at the top to suit the series one?

Valiant,
Great offer, I will take you up on it when the dash centre comes out.

Center "teardrop" (not sure why it's called a tear drop, but it is.) I've been hunting down a black one myself (they do exist, but afaik rare as hell.)

Take note though of the series 1 and series 2/3 dashes. I know the series 1 dash does not have a central locking button (series 2/3 yes, left side of the steering wheel on the dash. Pretty much inline with the fuel and boot buttons) so I'm not sure if the series 1 have the wiring there for it. I know the looms are different between series 1 and 2/3, the a/c controls are different and have different buttons, which means different connectors.

That being said, you could find a series 2/3 falcon with a black dash, accessories (glove box, under the steering wheel trim, ect) and a black teardrop, but it's a different design to the series 1 and you would have to change the wiring looms also.

If you are feeling a bit creative, you could always just hit it with a spray can.

Yeah, I definitely do not feel like swapping S1-S2/S3 dashes, I know it can be done and I have done it before S1-S1.

I have seen a black S1 before on a Forte but I have not seen it anywhere else. Does the black tear drop only exist on the Forte? what others have it???????

Yeah, I might just have to hit the one I have with a spray can. I've heard the vinyl dye works well on the plastic and has the bonus of the paint not flaking off the buttons as you use them. Anyone done this?

Strip it down and only paint this part.
ws1_ford_falcon_au_series_1_alloy_dash_replacement.jpg
Don't paint the switches etc as it will turn out like crap.
I have a S1 XR6 everything on it is black inside and out, EXCEPT for that tear drop it is grey.

So went to the wreckers today and my missus went for a walk and found a black series 1 interior. Trim code B5. Model was a falcon classic. It did have the buttons in there and in black, but we're just on the seats/console/floor.

That tear drop still looks grey though!?! or is it just the photo?

The buttons look like the black (very dark grey) but are those vents the lighter grey?

Cheers.

I few years ago had a 2000 AUII Fairlane with Black interior, all the dash was black.

IMG_20151129_073021.jpgIt is a bit hard to tell in this photo, but my dash is jet black and the centre fascia is grey with grey switches and knobs. To me it cheapens the whole look of a black on black car.

What I know so far:

- AU2/3 comes readily in black but requires full dash swap. Not interested.

- AU1 Classic maybe has black buttons but has greay tear drop?(sorry, can't quite see in the pic).

- I've seen a AU1 Forte with the black tear drop and buttons but they are weirdly quite rare. I also cannot confirm if they have the lcd clock.

-AU1 XR's all have grey tear drops and buttons.

Plan of attack:
-Locate wrecked AU1 Forte in black.
-Locate wrecked AU1 Classic in black.
-Keep asking if there are any other models with the black tear drop and/or buttons.

Cheers!

Thanks mate!
I'd appreciate it. It's a pity they decided to hang a good awful phone holder on it, otherwise I'd try and pick that up.

Just need to find a wrecked s1.5 XR.

reviving a slightly older thread....

Win!

I'd like to thank Xr8ute for supplying the AU1.5 centre dash section.
Very happy with it, matches the rest of the dark charcoal interior nicely.
(I'm a terrible photographer, the grey's match well but the light's all over the place)

I vinyl dyed the dash spear on the LHS, as the dark grey one broke. I'm happy with it, matches nicely.

Cheers,

Mike.

you can use a series 2 or 3 fascia in a series1. i have done this to a few au's and to me looks better than the original unit.

Pretty sure the buttons/ wiring is different. Eg: demister. A/c. (Series 1 has ac on/max) series 2 is on/off. Plus the venting system is different I think.
