Sorry,but I disagree,they still produce a very good vehicle in the Commodore.As I said "Move on" because once they are gone it's all over.Cheers

I only really started disliking Holdens when they introduced Commodore. Up until then I had always equally liked both Ford & Holden (and Chrysler).

Our 1939 Willys Overland was built at the Woodville plant so I wonder if these get a mention. Must get an order in for one as well as the Ford one - It'll be good for the grandkids to read about them in the future.

As I've said before...both Holden and Ford (and long-gone Chrysler Australia) were and are great cars. A few dogs here and there on all sides, but usually just good value Aussie cars.

And we should be constantly bloody grateful that the big American parent companies even allowed us to have "An Australian Car Industry" at all, instead of just RHD CKD kits coming in from overseas to be slapped together here as the Japanese did for years with some models.

Time caught up with them, and that's that.

G'day...Don't mind Holdens..Could never see myself owning one though.. My all time favourite would be the HR with a 186..and the EH wasn't too shabby either .
And maybe a HQ , HX or HZ..Never a huge fan of Toranas but respected the A9X as a top notch effort...

The book for the Red Lion boys and girls though looks like a great read as is the Ford book I'm desperately keen to buy before they sell out..
Got to say this though..I have no issue with GMH saying their Australia's own but in total fairness since the aussie designed XA Falcon onwards,

Ford Australia could lay an equally valid claim. Just using engines as an example, the Ford six has developed here by the engineers as a pretty darn good jigger as we all know , not least the mighty Barra N/A and Turbo and the supercharged US derived five litre V8 with the Australian upgrades ,not least the Harrop gem blower , well enough said.

Then who can forget the awesome Tickford developed hand built 5.6 litre V8 used solely for the T Series Falcons right here in OZ...Probably the last genuine Australian 6 cylinder engines for GMH would be 202 for the VK in the 1980's before they used the 3 litre Nissan sourced engine in the VL and then Buick 3.8 V6's , and now Chevvy V6's..V8 wise would the 308 and/or 253 be the last ones before bringing in the Chevrolet motors from Stateside..Please correct me if that's wrong..

Sincerely though it'll be truly sad to see GMH wind up about this time next year and the passion for them by the faithful should be admired and respected..The book will be a fitting tribute to the GMH company I trust..Cheers Rod..
