Not to mention the wasted time getting out of the car and into the boot when the fire could be under the bonnet.

If your trapped in the car and the fires most likely under the bonnet you may as well shoot the contents down your throat and hope you choke on it before the flames get you....or the smoke

I'm happy with it in the boot ...if it's mounted inside the cab with a couple of hose clips there's a fair chance of it coming loose and smacking you in the side of the head which would really hurt

I would have thought my saying "the wasted time getting out of the car" would have pointed to the fact that I wasn't thinking of that scenario.
Not to mention that if you can't get out how are you going to get to the boot ?

As for the inside mounting, I guess Mercedes have been doing it wrong since the late eighties then.

Hmmm...Interesting point of view...

Perhaps you could have more than one extinguisher?

One or two in the cab, plus one in the boot.

At $20 something a pop, well worth the peace of mind to give you that chance to get yourself / family out of the car?

If I was trapped in the car, I'm sure a fire extinguisher would win over a window as a means of escape...

Can’t believe no-one has come up with the comment about the colour and it’s original name ?, which I believe is called “hot house” Green, a little ironic maybe.

Having been at Motorsport events where engine fires have broken out, a 1.5kg extinguisher most of us run does nothing but make you wish you had a 4.5kg there at a minimum. An electrical dash fire is about as much as you'll extinguish with the 1.5kg most of us would run in-cab. Myself previously included. Have to go big if you're serious about saving your car unfortunately.

Mind you, a 1.5kg is all I'd run in a POS Holden. At least I could tell the insurance company I tried

i was trying to add your quote of asagaii which said the same thing haveing it in the front anyhoo put it where you like ive put up with 30 years of having them in truck cabs....no thanks il wear the minute it takes to get it out of the boot , most times the fire doesnt erupt till you open the bonnet and the air gets at it anyways

yep thats true when things are really hot ....try and stop a tyre fire with a 9kg...but you have a chance which is better than nothing in NZ some insurance companies will give you reduced premiums for having one on board........(somewhere)

i guess it was just a poor suggestion

That's about where the battery lives in Commodores isn't it? Plenty of car fires due to incorrectly fitted battery. Sister also had battery explode in her Mazda due to being low on water and full of Hydrogen gas. Fortunately, didn't set the car alight. I suspect that's probably what's happened here.

The colour of that Commodore is actually called "Hothouse"

Battery fires are a PITA I had one in a BA Ford once, managed to save the car but only just by a few seconds.
(Was caused by someone else had worked on the car,
putting the main starter positive cable somewhere where it melted on & shorted out on the exhaust manifold.
I had heaps of wiring & stuff to do afterwards to fix it & often wondered if I should have let it burn because it was well insured)

I feel sorry for that bloke.

Nope! Battery on d/s.

It's an air-box fire.
