If you look at the engine bay there's like 10 plus inches of just dead empty space between the grille and the radiator which you could fit some extra batteries into.

Yep .. I'm a big fan of the "big" Mustangs .. (own a '74 Javelin which is the AMC equivalent)

as far as a mustang goes its probably better value to buy one already done from the states then just make it your own
you could get something aussie like an XP coupe but won't find many for any reasonable prices.
how about a US XT-XR falcon coupe? I always wanted one and convert it to a XW-XY GT-HO clone

however for the money you will spend you could get a neglected BA GT for about $12k, respray, re-trim, nice rims, twin turbos and for $30k you would have a weapon.

As far as the Mustang choice, you could go the restomod route, Marshall Perrons is one of the better ones I've seen, lovely car but you would need a very healthy wallet.....

Definitely talk to a local Cougar owner before doing anything. During my consultation with North American Cougar enthusiasts, who helped me with making my first gen history poster, I was told about how they don't hold their value so well, don't get as much attention at shows, and how a lot of Mustang parts are listed for Cougars also but actually don't fit the Cougar.

Not a fan of mustangs...id stick with an old Aussie falcon or fairlane or cortina...plenty still about..as already mentioned fairlanes are cheap if on a budget...

Any steel bodies Falcon is in the Mustang price range these days. Prefer a V8 & 2 doors.
