Default Scruby is at it again

A Sydney council's plan to double residential parking fees for four wheel drive owners was today welcomed by a peak pedestrian body.

North Sydney Council last night voted to introduce a sliding scale for parking permits which will double fees paid by drivers of large 4WDs - including Jeep Grand Cherokees and Mitsubishi Pajeros - and large eight cylinder cars from $44 to $88.

Pretty one sided way to approach things. Surely now since large vehicles are now subject to a sliding scale, shouldn't large people also be fined for holding up vehicular traffic by crossing the road at the wrong time?

It's just an idea to get more money(they say it is to discourage use of these large vehicals). I think they forgot people already pay more in insurance and rego to drive these cars.

Let me get this straight, you pay double for a brand spankers BA GT-P, but pay $3000 for an XD 351 and get off?

That makes sense, as if taxing V8s higher didn't already.

I wonder how many cars will now be registered here in Victoria and taken back up to Sydney. God knows that’s what I'd be doing!

I believe that a sliding scale is a good idea, but not in the context of this thread.

I think that cars in urban areas should pay parking fees related to size (coming from someone who owns a large V8 sedan), not the engine capacity or what wheels receive power!

Seems a bit unfair for say someone in an XR6T to pay normal costs, while someone in a HJ 253-on-gas Kingswood pays double. And how is "large" defined? Does a V8 VB-VL commodore count as large? How bout a little Torana powered by a 350, does that cost half as much as its aforementioned Kingswood brethren?

How about (as already mentioned in this thread) the territory 2wd versus the 4wd?

And for your turbo fours, WRXs aren't that fuel efficient...

Actually, my opinion has changed after typing this out, the sliding scale rule would be too much of a disaster to try and effectively govern, as no doubt different councils would have different rules. I'm against it.

A pedestrain is a moterist that has found some were to park. This bloke would as so like to see the Sydney CBD & other area have a 40km/h speed limit for pedestrian saftly. So a 6c car would be cheap to park that a V8 in the same body taken up the same amount of space well all i can say to them is :countdown .

Simply put, whenever Scruby opens his mouth, it gives me the exact same feeling as I get with a bout of scorching Vindaloo-induced diarrhoea (sp?). You get the same sensations of pain, stink, and general discomfort.

So let me get this straight, you pay more to park an XR8 then you do an XR6. What the hell is this supposed to achieve??? I got a new face to put on my dart board now. Thanks Harold.

I heard on ABC radio it was all about reducing vehicle emmisions?? But if this is the case, what about turbo 4s and 6s etc, or a 120y blowing smoke along with a ton of carbon monoxide?

You do!!! And if Carr wasn't a bit more vote savvy so would we in NSW.

This crap from a Sydney council, and some mad woman Mayor working hard on reducing CBD speed limits to 40Kph while letting F**ktard bicycle couriers run rampant knocking over pedestrians.

NSW labor has today announced a reduction in the fines for speeding offences less than 15kph over, funny that with an election not too far away, and the Carr government more on the nose than the laundry basket at a nursing home. But read the small print what are the odd the enforcement doulbles and the error margin is reduced oh and there is a extra demerit point added.

Finally if anyone has compared Rego payments lately they would remeber that Larger and more powerful vehicles are already carrying a higher tax penalty.

Why should people have to pay more for larger cars as they still only take up one car park. It's like saying that larger people should have to pay more for a t-shirt because there is more material used in making an XL then a small. If the vehicle can legally be parked in one parking spot, then all vehicles that con fit legally into a standard parking spot should pay the same.

If for some reason the vehicle cannot be legally parked in one spot and has to take up two, then why not charge them more.

Don't you mean "Any vehicle that can be parked into a standard parking spot by a MILF while checking her makeup in the rearview mirror without running up the gutter, clipping either car parked in the other bays and not blocking the street for 10 minutes for the 217 attempts at reverse parking before stopping 2 metres from the gutter" should pay the same?
