I though this may be on interest...
I managed to pick up a couple of heads from a Tickford TE50. Apparently they’re the same as the 220kW heads, ie larger valves, ported by Perfectune/Yella Terra. Today I put them on the bench and lined them up with a standard intake manifold. It’s an interesting comparison. I’ll now use bearing blue to show where to mod the intake manifold and then break out the old CC Specialty porting gear from my bike racing days! TE50 heads fitted with YT roller rockers and ported lower intake. The rockers are adjustable and 1.7:1 ratio. The only issue is the standard rocker covers won't fit...

A 1" intake spacer was required because of the added height of the new rocker covers. And here she is in all her glory!

It's a totally different beast now. Snappy as fook. Exhaust note is totally different, engine seems to have lost a little bit of bottom end but wants to spin like a top.
Must be because of the increase in rocker ratio increasing lift, valve opening and closing speeds and 50thou duration. Bigger valves, increased compression and ported lower intake obviously contributing too. Off to the dyno next week for a before and after comparison. Then once I figure out Quarterhorse and get it tuned properly then a final dyno reading. The poor old ECU doesn't know WTF has happened! |

Before and after dyno results. I couldn’t ask for a better result, no loss of bottom end power, AFR ratio still good and open for tweaking at the top end. And it’s all Ford bits. 250rwhp must be 300+fwhp?

Interesting how both curves flatten off around 4500 rpm.
it also appears to go fairly rich at the same point. |

Almost identical power to my old 220kw s3 manual,mine had stock 220 headers,twin manta system,ported lower intake,msd coil packs, advanced cam timing by 2 degrees,made 255 rwhp.
My timing chain was stretched and fkd after 100000km so i replaced with a rollmaster and advanced timing to make it a bit snappier down low. Mine got tuned by chad at streetbuilt. Good result there cobber. |

Thanks for this update - have recently acquired a '99 XR8 myself and am contemplating my options (also have some of the Tickford 220kw/GT40P heads on my shelf)
Having read Stu's posts on the quarterhorse I'm keen to give that a go sound like you're very satisfied - would be keen to hear how you go with the tuning etc |
