Default V for Vendetta

I've just come back from seeing V for vendetta- very good and not at all what I was expecting. Its based loosely upon the legend of Guy Fawkes but takes the angle in a modern or slightly futuristic way.

Whilst an obvoius fantasy story, far too much of it rang true: its based in London which has basically become a police state with little free speech due to an overbearing government.
I 'd definately recommend it. Anyone else seen it?
What did you think?

I heard it was intentionally making a stab at the american government, in a 'what could happen' kind of way. To wake the public up...

I guess they thought it was too risky to base it on the americans in the movie...

Yep, your'e right and it still does have a stab at them; basically, the American nation is described as a foul place of effluent or something similar- is a bit difficult to decribe but definately worth a watch!

What you have heard is partly true, it has some very strong connotations and implied references to Hitler and the Nazis, but it isn't focused on Nazi Germany.

I found it to be a wonderful movie. I went into it with no pre-conceived ideas (I hadn't even seen a trailer) so I had no idea what it was going to be about, or like. Hugo Weaving is sensational (I love an articulate main character) and Natalie Portman does okay (could have been better IMO). Great premise for a story, let down in not explaining well enough some plot points/ideas, but still keeps you thinking.

Would certainly recommend it.

I saw it at the flicks and enjoyed it for the most part although it did loose a bit of edge as it progressed... it built well but imo fizzled a little.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I'd recommend it to anyone who is after something in a movie than just a bit of blood and guts.

Brilliant movie. Awesome story and the action wasn't too bad either.

Worth watching.

I also thought that it drew some parrallels with Pink Floyd's The Wall- certain parts were very reminiscent of it.

From what I have seen of the trailer, it has some ideas taken from 1984 by George Orwell. I am going to see it Friday night. I look forward do it.

I liked it, it has a very broad scope and some parts are a little too political, but it is highly entertaining. One line that stuck out was something like "It's amazing what can happen after you blow up a building.."

Loved it. As has been said, a little more detail would have been good, but the movie just got better and better the more little bits of the story it revealed...

Saw it last night. Absolutely bloody brilliant, that's what I say. If you haven't done so yet, go see it.

It's a bit like 1984 (that book inspires so many movies) and I was chuffed to see John Hurt playing a good role - quite the opposite of the one he played in the movie of 1984, although I suppose that's the point the film-makers wanted to make.
