I'm not going after the brand of car, merely interested in where the court will find responsibility for the deaths. I'm not sure if any precedent is set that apportions blame to the maker of the system, the driver, or a mix of both.

Just my opinion, there is no way in hell I would take my eyes off the road no matter what marketing spin any manufacturer says about autopilot. In fact if you don't want to drive the car get a taxi.

It's a no-brainer. Driver 100% responsible. Doubly so when Tesla themselves state that you have to remain in control when using autopilot.
hope he cops a big one |

Should be charged for being dumb enough to believe the rubbish that tesla and elon spin about self driving.
No other manufacturers will release it until they consider it safe, but tesla don’t care about that. |

A debate for another time is whether extreme positivity-bias in the tech industry leads to early adoption of new/disrupting technology without properly considered idea of things that could go wrong, or any apparent care for others affected by said new technology going wrong. I believe it's a hallmark of our times.

People fooled into believing that semi-autonomous vehicle modes are anything more than glorified cruise + lane keep.

Won’t be that far in the future where every car is autonomous, watch the death toll come right down.
We aren’t there yet though

Some countries have made it illegal for companies like Tesla to market their cars as autonomous or having autopilot because it's deceptive. It's nothing but a driver assist system and you have to be a little slow to think these things are good enough for you to take your eyes off the road.
Charge the driver for being stupid |

Australian roads are not conducive for autonomous cars and never will be but moreso nor are oz drivers. EV's require an unbroken line on each side of the road, ie middle and outer edge as a means to "tell" the car where to stay. You don't have to be Einstein to realise that scenario is basically an impossibility in Oz as our roads are crap and whose going to pay for and paint hundreds of thousands of kilometres of roads in Oz with 3 white lines. Any line could also be broken within days of being laid meaning crashed EV's and deaths. Then there's the issue of who is going to pic up the tab for accident victims or families that sue because dumbass Wombat Willy wasn't told any better an just assumed it was ok to do so and activated autonomous drive on a good ol Ozzie gravel road. His EV then wiped itself out along with him and co by wrapping itself around a gum tree whilst it headed bush looking for a white line. This would only work with dedicated lanes separated by barriers on each side and not mixed with normal vehicles. But that is usually called a bus lane or railway line so what's the point. Mate, not going to happen in any of our lifetimes if at all. |

I bet it will be quite far in the future when all cars are autonomous. Most members I’m here will never see it happen. Remember when autonomous cars started to spoken about in the general public in 2017. A lot of experts said in 5 to 10 years later autonomous electric vehicles would be all over the road. Here we are 5 years later and very little has changed. I’ve seen 1 fully autonomous electric vehicle and it was nothing but a novelty with its 18kmh top speed. |

One also admitted the kangaroo is probably one thing it could never handle. Cause it’s more likely to do the opposite of what you’d think, while also being utterly unpredictable and with no regard for its own life. |

Driver will be acquitted and then both he and the victims will sue Tesla for millions. This was ALWAYS going to be the problem in America. |

Mind you, when it comes to driverless automation, very few parents would put their kids in the back seat of a driverless car and send them out in the traffic… |

I saw another incident in Paris on the net.
Security cameras in a little restaurant capture a Tesla flying past at mach1 then bang. Killed one and injured 20. Driver was stationary at a red light and he claims car just accelerated of at maximum speed and it wouldn't brake. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEjwLKE0cCQ
