Default maybe time to get a new car but...

my dad suggested to me that its time for me to get a new car. the ED is showing its kms and i'm having to spend alot of money maintaining it.

problem is i dont want to get rid of it. so what do i do...

this AU looks awesome http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsa...cylinder_num=6

or maybe this EL ghia http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsa...cylinder_num=6

i'm on a traineeship wage so i dont earn much, i could afford no more than $15,000 over something like 4 or 5 years.

must be a ford, must be 6 cyl.
at the moment i have a car which i like, i think it looks good. i dont want a new car that i dont like as much as what i have now. still dont know how to part with it though.

advice please

If the headlights dont bother you on the AU then going from ED fairmont to AU falcon wont be a change in acc levels by much.

Personally I love all the buttons and gadgets so would get the EL ghia .....

Bit steep for an AU.

Get a BA - go to auctions and either bid or get it at the fixed price beforehand. There are heaps for less than $15,000...and with a lot less kays than that AU as well.

Nothing against AU's but given that you are upgrading to get out of an old car you may as well go as new as you can afford.

I bought my BA XLS ute for about $17K at auction with 60,000kms and that was 6 months ago...

if i bought a BA for under 15k its going to have at least 100-150,000 kms on it and be a base model. i want to go for something that im going to like from the word go, if i got a base model BA id just have to spend more money getting it up to the spec that i want.

least with the EL all the interior and electrics are done, and the AU has an awesome bodykit which really conceals how ugly the car truly is.

I can guarantee you that a base model BA has more standard features than up-spec falcons from 10 years ago (not to mention the 182kw engine)....and no for under $15 you are looking at kays of less than 100,000kms - they are everywhere, ex-fleet nobody wants large cars at the moment.

Carsales BA - Black BA XT, dual airbages, ABS, $15K, knock off a couple of thousand when negotiating and lower it with rims. Would be a nice car.

Looks like a 1HZ. me thinks someone stuffed up pictures. If not.. at least you have the Dual Battery setup.

Taking into account the K's and the kit on the AU, that's a pretty good deal. Go the AU.

Plus that meteorite colour rocks... but I'm biased.

Go the AU ... that's a neat example of a Forte there ... the EL GHIA is nice ... but it starting to age though.

Definately a photo stuff-up. Look at the engine bay itself. The panels are all white.

Yep definitely the wrong engine bay pic there! However an AU11 is OK but only up to a certain price. For their price tag I'd want an LPG conversion thrown into the deal. They think a full-body kit bowls people over. You can get a stock AU11 on petrol for $10 you know. Surely you can do mods for way under $4K? Don't forget you would pay stamp duty on $4K of mods on that car.

I have a EL Ghia and I love it, but it's definitely starting to show it's age.
I wouldn't upgrade from one E-series to another, but that's just me.

Id certainly encourage you to consider the BA & on top of your 15K i assume you have your car as a trade or private sale? There is plenty of BA's out there that you would be able to get for 15K or less if u haggle. Its a good time to buy a large car eg falcon. Im sure you can get a BA with less than 100,000km in your price range. Over time you can lower it & put on a ncye set of alloys & you have a very ncye pretty new car.

G'Day mate back re the post i made yesterday suggesting that you should consider a BA (have a look at the one under the Falcon section - thread title BA - Super Lows?)
The guy picked up a white BA 73k @ auctions for $14K slammed it & put on alloys & its come up a treat.

go for a BA..

If your going to buy an AU, buy a Series III Futura with low kays on it, that way your only spending about 13 k and your getting a relatively new car with low kays on it. If you wanna spend 15 buy a BA Futura with about 80 k on it from the auctions, cant go wrong. Dont bother with the EL, more problems then they are worth as they get a bit older, you wouldnt be acheiving anything going from what youve already got.

I'd prob go an AU too. Not sure about that one though... All car yards seem to be doing that with the AUs and VXs - aftermarket kit and cheap wheels.
