Default EF/EL Brake upgrade options

Hi Matt,

What slotted rotors and upgraded pads are available for an EF/EL?
(retaining the standard calipers)

A couple of yrs back, I fitted a set of DBA4132SL/SR and DBA4133SL/SR heat treated rotors to my EL wagon, and they've been awesome.
Just fantastic!
They're up to 30,000km and not a hint of warping.
I'm running Bendix Ultimates with those rotors.

I have a second wagon (EF Fairmont), which needs to receive the same brake upgrade.
Maybe with some QFM pads this time though.

What is available out there?

On my XR6 Wagon I run the DBA T2 slotted rotors and the QFM HPX pads both front and rear. I've had always tended to use the Greenstuff pads in the past but thought their price was getting a bit high - changed to the QFM and I've really liked the gripping / stopping feel. I'm not a heavy braker as I tend to use the manual to slow the car as well but it pulls up well with very little dust as well.

I'll probably do the same when my FG needs the brakes done too.

No worries mate.

Do you have any of those DBA4000 series heat treated rotors in stock?
(4132SL/SR and 4133SL/SR)?

If so, I'd be keen to organise something.

The non-heat treated rotors yeah?
I guess they'd have to be old stock from somewhere.

Apparently DBA will do a run of the new sort, but there's a minimum order quantity, of 25pairs.

I don't know if its old stock but yes we have to order 25 pair to get them in and thats a big outlay so you would have to have them pre sold first.

Yeah, definitely a big outlay.
So what are the options for better than standard, using the factory brake hardware?

T2's and a decent set of pads?

What are the non-heat treated T2's worth?

There are a couple of options but not many. What is the car going to be used for?

Lets go with spirited street use.
Definitely not track days.

I'm not too worried about pad life.

I'm interested in pads that bite hard from cold, and can sustain reasonable repeated hard braking.

The combo on my EL wagon, is those DBA 4000 series heat treated rotors,
plus Bendix Ultimate pads.
The pads are about 1/3 worn in 30,000km, but have also eaten the rotor a bit.

Even with the brake upgrade, the braking response on the above EL, is not all that confidence inspiring, not without significant pedal effort.
The brake upgrade included new genuine ford/PBR front calipers, slides etc. (not rebuilt)

The EF wagon I also own, has a markedly better pedal feel and braking response, (even BEFORE the below upgrades) but has extended pedal travel, which takes some getting used to.

The EF got a similar treatment to the EL - DBA (non heat treated) slotted rotors, QFM HPX pads and I rebuilt the original front calipers with new genuine PBR pistons, and genuine Ford/PBR seals etc.

The rotors are $260 a pair for the front in the T2 and we should be able to get some HPX pads for about $90. Freight is extra

Hey guys,

I have an EB XR8 with a 5.6 litre stroker T Series engine. The car is fitted with EL stub axels. What brake caliper kit would you all recommend ?

Thanks 🙏

These kits have to be custom made with your stub axles and start from $2800

Hi Matt,

I also have a EL Wagon 6 cyc and would like the same or similar brake upgrade including the pads for the front. I have always been happy with the brakes I get from Race Brakes.
Can you please provide a price and lead time.

Cheers
Matt

Yes, Basically all the E series Fords have to have the front custom kit made because the original mounts don't work for upgrades
