Motivation for Uni - Page 2

Im 7 weeks into my first year of my 3 year business course, and im bored as. I have no motivation to do anything more than required, which is the wrong approach. Im hoping i get a little more into it in the next half a year and into the following two years. Im looking forward to full time work at the end which will be 2009.

The funniest thing of all is, im not sure what im doing is what i want to do in the future.....

Yes its painful, 3rd year for me with another 1 to go after this year, the only thing that keeps me going at this point is knowing its what i wanna do and the fact that ill be able to upgrade to a Typhoon..

Its not fun but at the same time it could be worse, it could be like school... :(

I quit my Uni course for now.. I realised I am not cut out to do this stuff at home.. So am going to apply for mid year intake and hope like hell to get in..

Please dont say your all bored attending.. I need to attend to keep motivated.....

QUESTION 1. Does your uni have a bar that is open from 9am?

QUESTION 2. If the answer to Question 1 is yes, why are you not there?

It's a proven fact that more learning is undertaken at the uni bar than in lecture theaters. PROVEN.

i get up, i go to uni, and hang around and play guitar with my mates... no motivation or anything...

in my 2nd year of Bachelor of Industrial Design... hmmmm

Lol. I dont go to uni anymore but spent 4 enthralling years studying banking.

Forget the pain of attending, you cant avoid it.... but - I assure you that graduation makes it all worthwhile.

I started the course doing it from home and found that there were just far too many questions that needed answering (tutors didn't always answer emails)... Plus the staying focused and on track was really hard when studying from home..

I am still as passionate about the subject and I really think I would benefit from being in a lecture rather than struggle at home.

Does that make sense?

All too familiar

I did one subject externally.... and failed miserably.

I guess the way some of us are wired means we do better in a more structured environment. I was really into the subject mattter.... but 2 hour economics lectures at 9oclock in the evening werent particularly inspiring lol - despite the fact i loved the subject.

Saying that, i should be studying mergers and acquisitions (finance) as I'm writing this... haha

I've also noticed after getting back your marks that the motivation levels seem to increase, ive also taken into consideration the fact that i get 4 months off at the end of the year. Plus i am hoping for a company car (Ford Xr) once i obtain a job after the course is over.

Uni isnt that bad.....

I havn't had a job in 4-5 years... dropped out of school when I was 17, went to tafe not long after.. dropped out soon after... 21 now an I don't have an income, no resume, no qualifications, silch .... nutting, as much as I want to do something, I feel I don't have the enegy or motivation to do stuff. I am signed up with a job seeker joint which I havn't been to for last 2 weeks ... as I said as much as I want to do it, something has to stop me :( - think this all started when my parents split up which caused me to drop school etc(it sounds stupid, but i wasn't happy!!) an now its exploded an i got nothing
- i need someone to actually force me to do something, perhaps boot camp lol

so if I was you, don't even think bout dropping out cause you could end up where I am, lol

Have you thought about the armed forces? You can learn stuff (trade too) and become far more disciplined and organised than now.
It would be exactly like 'boot camp'!!!!

yeah hey, i'd love to join the armed forces and stuff but i would never pass the requirements

as far as i know, you need to pass atleast year 11 or 12... an i never made it that far anyway lol

Getting a little off topic, but my friend tried to join the army doing a trade and got knocked back because his BMI (body mass index) was too large. whats a persons size got to do with whether or not they can do a trade within the army?

He was rather dissapointed considering he quit school because at the first interview they said he was in.....

I would be guessing it would be a fitness thing, but then that could be wrong.

Even doing a trade you still have to train hard the same as a general person I think (again could be wrong).

It does seem unfair and harsh considering he left school on the impression he was in. Is there an appeals thing or something?

I just sent my application form into a uni to see about attending part time, but I won't really know till the end of May maybe June sometime.

The only other option is to continue struggling (the tutors really are a waste of energy) but only one subject at a time and maybe take on a night course (part-time also) to update other skills.

What Uni and what course are you looking at going into mate?

Yeh its easier to go to uni then try and do it by correspondance, you have to do each of the weeks homework before your tutorials, it makes life alot easier that way as you can ask questions or tag along with everyone else who asks questions.

Dont be affraid, providing you want to do it its not that bad, just make sure you pick day subjects rather then night ones, they get tuff as the semester progresses and you wear out.

Btw I go to Griffith Nathan, its about the easiest to get to on the southside of brisie, theres good parking to that doesnt cost the earth like QUT atleast..

I was thinking of the night lectures, but really just want in on the course.. So, basically whatever I can get I will be happy with.

Thanks for the tips... I really really want to do this course and will make sure I do it. The passion just will not fade where this is concerned.....
I'm not really afraid as such it's probably the 'age' thing, the frustration of useless tutors and the thought of not doing as well I think I should.

But hey, if I don't try, I won't know ...

I always think of something good coming up in the next week, like a massive ИИИИ up or something, and tell myself get this crap out of the way so I can enjoy that. Seems to work for me.

Well education is a gift, I've nearly polished off a post grad whilst working, probably will do another next year.

Do as much as you can realistically can put up with, work out where you want to be in ten years and what qualifications you'll need to get there.

That's the fantastic thing, I know exactly where I want to be in ten years and I know exactly what qualifications I need to get there.. It's just making sure I succeed..

I don't want to just pass, I want the best result I can possibly achieve.....
