Help me ford mondeo

Hello I am a single mum in Australia lived here for nearly 10 years two boys both full on and on the spectrum and I bought a 2nd hand mondeo. I now have no car and put it into ford only to be told the engine has gone due to the egr valve I have done some research but i am lost and don't know what to do I spent my savings on it a year ago and have problems for 6months now fixed everything except the valve. So please help give me some direction please were to go next or is it just a complete lost thank you 😊

Firstly get it out of the Ford dealership & take it to a local guy who knows these cars. I assume it's a Diesel, which can cost big bucks, so be careful & find somebody you can trust.

First thing, please don't take offence when you don't get an immediate reply to an answer. I appreciate that you might be without a car at present. However, most member here do work full time, so they wouldn't have even had a chance yet to look at the forums today.

Second thing, the Mondeo wasn't sold in large numbers here in Australia. So, the number of people who have had hands on experience with them is a lot smaller that in, say, UK.

A couple of thoughts about your problem.

I am assuming that the car is well out of warrantee? Some basic details like model, age, and kilometres travelled would help with generating an answer.

A Ford Dealer will diagnose and repair a car using genuine (new) Ford components, following the Ford repair process, and back to Ford factory specifications. This can be very expensive, and there may be other options.

A quick hunt of the internet suggests that the EGR valve is a common enough problem, across all makes of diesel engines. Far be it for me to suggest to do an engine modification that interferes with the factory installed emissions equipment ... however, in researching for a response to your question, I noticed a number of posts (in other internet forums) that have simply removed the EGR valve and replaced with a blanking plate. (Google "EGR delete").

As Dr Terry has suggested, it would be worth your time and money to get a second (and perhaps a third) opinion from another diesel mechanic. If possible, speak directly to the mechanic who is looking at your car.

When asking for a quote, stress that funds are very tight and you are looking for a low cost solution. This might include fitting a second hand EGR valve, a aftermarket EGR valve, or going through the EGR delete process. I would even go as far as asking the mechanic for their thoughts on an EGR delete or an after market EGR valve as a cheaper solution.

The last point that I would like to make concerns your comment about being on the the spectrum. I speak as a father who's eldest daughter is well and truly on the spectrum and is high functioning. So ... please don't take what I say next the wrong way. (I am trusting you to be able to read and understand my sincerity and concern.) When you go to any car repairer (be that a Ford Dealer or another mechanic), I would strongly suggest that you take along a companion. Preferably male, the older the better. Be that a male family member or a trusted friend. You can still do the talking and negotiating. All your companion has to do is to be in the conversation, but not say much. Their job is to just watch, listen, and help you compare notes after the discussion.

Often, the just the presence of an independent observer will reduce the possibility of you being taken advantage of.

Hopefully, the above might give you some ideas on a way forward.

we are not wanting to pry but stating what state, even city you live in may bring some suggesations of other mechanics/workshops.

As suggesting I'd get another opinion. I'd ask Ford specifically what is the problem and fix plus take notes. Then make a couple of phone calls to some other mechanics to see what they say.

FORD Mondeo diesel 2017 titanuim tdci I live in NSW central coast the car is 2 years out of warranty an I bought it of a guy near me in a private sale for 13000 cash all my bloody savings. I had the car serviced on time twice and replaced the timing belt the and cooolant pump when the thermostat failed the car then drove for 2 weeks when computer started sending emergency failures finally went into limp mode on transmission failure specialist said piston number 3 was not firing took to ford had inspection done and ford said erg valve failure which caused coolant to be pumped back into the engine block causing damage to the engine which still runs but is stuck in limp mode. Ford now say the cylinders are probably warped have run out of money and don't know what to do. So sorry about my impatience and lack of info I have never been so darn lost in my life.

Sorry if I have ****ed any one off that was not my intentions ever i am really at my wits ends and not very good at explaining myself. I am a 38 year old mum who has had the worst luck as of late. If it just affected me I could handle this but it effects my kids so much as well and our daily routine from school to therapist appointments.

Yes, I agree, this can all feel very overwhelming.

Now that we have a little bit more detail, hopefully some of the other forum members might have some ideas.

May I suggest the following steps.

Write down on paper, in chronological order, all the repairs you have had done to date. Then also write down the advice you have received as possible problems. This will help you provide a concise story to the next mechanic.

I do think a some point you will need to find a local and good diesel mechanic for another opinion. If you strike out here, that will mean a Google or Facebook search in your local area.

Even though the car is off the road at present, I would not give up. Keep plugging away for a solution. Doing research (like what you have done here) and asking around costs you nothing but a bit of free time, and might still provide an answer to getting you back on the road.

Sorry, one other thing. Do you have the vehicle's service history? And has the servicing by the previous owner been done by a Ford Dealer (they will have put a stamp in the back of the servicing book for each service done).

For what it’s worth, our 2018 Focus leaked coolant into the cylinders, the engine was toast. Full Ford service history, Ford fixed the car for free, even provided a loan car while it was done. The car was a year out of warranty.

Might be worth hitting them up.

While it’s at the Ford dealer, it’s probably relatively safe/secure.

If they’ve done no favours this far, at least stretch them for free storage so much as it suits. If you tow it home (assuming you’ve got secure parking) and then tow it elsewhere - that’s $500 gone. Whereas if you can find a diesel specialist that has a rapport with you, it could be one tow from Ford to them…

• Question for the others here - is this (being a 2017 model) likely to be the Peugeot 2 litre engine?

I think it uses a variation of the PSA DW10, unsure if it's the 2L or the 2.2L (DW12) variation, the latter may be a UK only option.

Before you organise anything to do with repairing the vehicle, contact the Department of Fair Trading & talk to them about what has occurred.

How long have you owned the vehicle?
How many kilometers on the odometer?
You mentioned you've had the vehicle serviced twice.
Was the vehicle serviced & repaired at a Ford dealership?
