Yep, sort of why i dont do many meets anymore too. All going the same route with mods & models, including the U.S. stuff.
So many cool models that never get imported. I think the right models later 70's, through to the 90's cars would do well now days, especially as the population ages.

I like stock originals too, but I don't believe the era is that important. I get just as much satisfaction looking at a stock FJ Special as I do a restored XB Fairmont or a mint EB GT.

Harvest Green, which effectively replaced Congo Green. Congo was by far the better colour.

Same for me, any model in original condition. I don't mind a few tasteful mods if done in the name of preservation or improving a key area.

AU II Fairmont sedan in Silhouette, Tickford Body Kit and the optional 5.0 V8. Loved the subtle warble they have with the standard exhaust.

What a thing of beauty that XW Fairmont in the burgundy/black vinyl roof is.
Such style, tasteful chrome. So nice.

And on the Magna's and 380s above, they were really good cars, and solid. I preferred them to the hire VZ's back in the day. One work run was a Magna V6 from Kununnurra to Wyndham and back and I loved the power, comfort and the frameless windows as I sped past the incredible boab trees dotting that landscape.

Yes I have to admit, the 380 series II Mitsi was an excellent thing. Only gripes were the poor economy:

and the lack of turning circle.

The above pic shows the absolute best economy I could get out of it over a 2 week trip while in Tassie. I'm talking about this:

As soon as it started, I would select drive and nurse it at no more than 20% pedal, ever, over a full tank, that's the best I could get. It did everything perfectly I thought, Toyota quality 100%.

I drove a VR spec of late series Magnæ for about 18km yesterday. It was somewhat tired and grubby but still reminded so much of the AU and B-series Falcons. Even the airbag looks like it might almost fit an AU.

Spotted this lovely XP Falcon Delux wagon while walking the dog this afternoon. A few meters ahead was a HR Holden wagon.................must have been the day for classic wagons. Both stood out in a sea of same-same dual cabs.

Just look at how simple the lines are, which could come across as "boring", but at least there is stylistic proportion a sense of prettiness to the design. This goes back to a comment I made about new cars being a race to see who can design the ugliest car.

Car and Driver tried to quantify what makes a station wagon:

https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...wagon-feature/

"a length about 2.6 times the width, and a width about 1.3 times the height."

Not that you came across many of them in the first place, but I spotted a BF LTD the other day. And if that wasn't rare enough for you, of which there were 279 BF LTD's made, well this one was painted in Vibe.

(Not an LTD, but shows the colour pretty well. Vibe with the China Beige interior would have been a stunning combo..................

With paint code B4, Vibe was introduced in October 2004 on a few run-out BA's, but is mostly known for being used on BA MK II and BF models. Vibe was discontinued in October 2006.

Available on the following -

- XT Sedan/Wagon
- Futura Sedan/Wagon
- Fairmont
- Fairmont Ghia
- XR6 / XR6T / XR8 Sedan/Ute
- Fairlane Ghia
- Fairlane G220 / G8
- LTD
- FPV Sedans

For FPV, it was offered in the following stripe combinations -

BA - Orange stripes only.

BA MK II - Orange or Silver, Orange seat stitching.

BF - Orange, Gold and White, Silver seat stitching.
