[B]Hey all
Im looking at buying a 1977 mk2 four door 2L manual escort, but im unsure what stuff i should look for.. Is there many areas where rust gets in that i should check? Engine sounds? Gearbox?Anything i should check to make sure its not a complete dud? Any help would be muchly appreciated. Cheers :voldar02: |

look in the wheel wells often they have a lot of rust there, check the floor, and yeah just other places

Check the Heater box area (The bulge under the bonnet) and the c-pillars (both inside and out) for rust.. Check to see if there are any leaks etc make sure it runs nice and doesnt blow smoke when hot or cold or make any noises it shouldnt.

DEFINATELY check the above mentioned heater box bulge on the firewall.
These things are shocking for rusting there and by the time u realise the rust is there it will be pain to fix. Mine had it so bad water used to gush in whenever it rained ,filling the car up with 3- 4 inches of water. ( no joke ) Also on the metal around the rear window corners, particularly the bottom ones. |

When i bought my car there was rust free from wht i knew until i lifted up the rubber mat on the boot floor, it revealed rust holes the size of 50cent peice all over. Hope this helps. Its a real to get rid of

check out under the front bumper rite in there i found some on mine with out even thinkin of it

hey thanks for your help, checked a mk2 out yesty, good body no rust in any of those places, however the engine and supension, brakes were pretty ordinary so i passed on that one..
ill keep searching... |
