Default 68 cortina engine??

Hi, I got a 68 mk2 cortina with a 1600 X flow in it and 4 on the floor, was wondering if anyone here has done an engine swap in a mk2 to a 2L eskie motor and also the gearbox aswell. Will be pure lpg machine. Or should i just rebuild the old X flow and turbo it?

I've done a 1.6 -> 2lt conversion. The engine pipe for the exhaust needs to be sorted. I'm sure you also need an accel cable. 1600 and 2lt bell housings are different due to throw.

u will also have to change the sump as esky and cortina are different all u need is a spacer for ur throw on the gear box different cable as well and mabe a different raditor and change some wiring and thats a bout it

Yep different sump and oil pickup.. The bellhosing bolt pattern is the same, just different clutch plate... Though IMO its Bette to use a 2lts gear box... You may have to cut some of floor away it gear lever is in different position??? Exhaust / carb is on other side to 1600, Radiator needs o be moved forward by bolting it to back of radiator supports and trimming front panel. Depending if mk1 or 2 Escort..n Escort specific air cleaner is required as Cortina type won't fit under bonnet...In some cases the thermostat housing need to be clocked [turned] to make hoses line up...Fuel lines need to be changed, longer throttle cable, maybe longer clutch cable? depending on what model etc... Engine mounts are Escort specific also if engine is Cortina doner...
But its not hard to convert!!!

Thanks, i think it should be relatively easy, i am gonna make it dedicated gas and possibly fully bomb the motor, maybe turbo. Atm the car is basicly just a shell with the old running gear as i have stripped it, the old radiator has carked it and theres no air cleaner or cables for the carby or fuel lines, also no exhaust and the fuel tank is rooted, that bad i need to cut it out. What would i expect to pay for a 2L eskie motor (one that needs a rebuild) and gearbox, I am also considering changing the diff and also changing all hubs and adding a brake booster. mmm... what else....I only paid $150 for the car and there is really only 2 bad patches of rust.

why would you want to run a 2lt on gas???? bolt on some twin webbers and let it fly...if you run gas you're gonna regret it...

Why run a 2Litre on gas?? Its cleaner, engine last longer because of minimal carbon build up, its cheaper, its a lot simpler to set up as no carby is needed, all you need is a throttle body from an EFi motor, also a dedicated gas engine is can still produce similar amount of power as to a petrol beast. And i like the gas idea as all my cars have run on it with no problems. Everyone has there own likes and dislikes, though i dont dislike petrol. Also where the hell do i get a 2L pinto from, thats the eskie motor yeah? also whats recon turbo worth for the 2L pinto?

If you need a 2L speak to ERR or Racetune.........You might even be able to find one in the Quokka.

2L's came out in Eskie's and early Cortina's

2litre Escort motors are all over the place. I notice you are in Perth, so you could try the Quokka on Thursday. Also worth considering ERR in the southern suburbs (I have never dealt with them but have heard good things) or Racetune in Bayswater. It would be well worth speaking to either Tony or Rolly before going the gas route. Rolly in particular builds the tougest 2 litres around and knows them inside out, he would be able to give you good advise. I have a Rolly 2 litre in my car and it goes hard, is driven to race events, raced and then driven home. I will be driving the car to Albany in a couple of weeks, doing the hillclimb, the around the houses and then driving it home again. And it continues to take the punishment without complaint.

You could also source a motor from either shop. It might be worth considering getting a motor that has already been worked. Could save you a few $$$ and a fair amount of time.

No problems. I am not really mechanically minded, but the guts of it are;
2 litre, possibly bored out to 2.1 (i bought a van from someone who used to work with Rolly for the mechanial bits), kent fr32 cam, single 45mm weber, sierra unleaded head that has been ported. sierra 5 speed, vented discs, racing brake pads, konis in the rear, big sway bar, big radiator...thats about it really. goes very nicely (just ask the d!ck in his lowered VT : ) and has been really reliable, especially consiedring the punishment it takes. I had it to 180 / 190 down the hill at wannerroo racetrack last year, and there was still some left :
