VCR tapes

With technology here upon us who still uses a vcr machine.We still do as hubby is slightly ancient and still has a lot of his music videos on tape. But what about the younger generation,17,18,19 on or should i say downwards, do you use a vcr.?

Whats a VCR.... mmmm I'm 52 so the memory not what it used to be.. Ah yes we have a cuboard full of tapes, wondered what they were.
Get yourself a DVD recorder, throw your tapes on and record them to disk..you will never look back.

I waiting here for my VCR do die, then the DVD recorder will come along and by that time it will be cheaper. Just bought a nice big widescreen tv so I won't try my luck and get anything else for a while.

i still use...own a VCR its pretty much brand new and ot 60sec rewind..<< i thought that was cool guess not

DVD recorder - meh i just record on my media PC
or download the show/program but i no somepeople who have used the dvd/vcr cmobo Recorder with HDD and backed up their VCR's onto DVD with it cost about $900 for the machine but 200gig HDD and dual layer DVD burner who can complain

I only use it to tape shows when I'm out of the house. Probably should upgrade to a HD recorder.

Yep I still love my VCR and im 18, since i dont have a DVD Recorder (other than PC), my VCR gets a workout, not to mention about 30 of my facourity movies are on VHS. I still use cassette's as well through my Denon Hi Fi.

I dont even have a proper DVD player, i just use my PS2.

*If you want to keep using your VCR, i reccomend you stock up on tapes now

In our lounge we have a DVD/VCR combo thingy. Quite good actually. Had it a couple of years now.

The kids have a separate DVD player and VCR in their tv area. They also have VCRs (in their rooms) and portable DVD players for the car, bedroom, going away etc...

Would love a DVD recorder... waiting for prices to drop a bit. Tend to spend too much money on the car and not enough on cool electical stuff too... Hmmm.

Plan to get a BIG plasma with an entire sound system and gadgets to go with it at some point. Just get it all at once I guess. Once the car is done...

I threw out the VCR when upgrading to digital T.V now have a DVD recorder with hard drive, just need to get the wedding 21st etc.....videos put on DVD one day.

Watching tv is so over-rated, yet nothing compares to driving..
that is my theory anyway..

I do have a VCR, I keep forgetting to plug the thing in and set it up.. only moved almost 6 months ago... so still have lots of time yet

I set the VCR for the folks! Does that count??

I do use it when I get a great old movie that on VHS. Otherwise I wouldn't really use a recording advice as there's really nothing that interesting on TV, or I don't care if I miss a show.

I am 20 and have a VCR, but I don't use it. Same with the DVD player. Foxtel is on all the time. Plus we get 2 freee box office movies a moth. But if we want to dig something out to watch its used. Or to record a show.

I use a Legend PVR ( set top box with 160gb Hard drive ), , this stores about 80 hours of tv... If I really want it from there, I burn it to DVD !

Yeah but have you noticed that foxtel doesnt show all the music that you saw in the late 70,s and 80,s.And please dont let me have to go and dig out hubby,s old vcr tapes.Its just like the westerns you see on foxtel, they show the same ones over and over again,anyone remember shotgun slade, have gun will travel, branded, colt 45.Nah, you have to be old to remember them (i can say that he is not here) or have them on VCR.

My gf still watches videos.. and listens to tapes :|

She has dvds and cds/mp3s as well of course, but i reckon about 75% of her audio and video enjoyment is derived from magnetic-tape based objects.. scary!

if i want to record a show, i digital capture it on the computer, cut the ad's out and burn it to dvd, no quality loss, and alot less space then the old tape

I am an electronics technician and YES we still actually repair VCR's for people...We do however have to repair at a reduced price - otherwise its not worth it.
Regarding dvd recorders - good while they work but they wont last as long as good old vcr's - the laser will no doubt wear out in a few years...

Still use VCR occasionally here , haven't upgraded to DVD recorder , but 2 of my kids have DVD players , will be a big job when I do , I've got over 200 Videos ..... At the moment I'm in the middle of recording all my old records (those flat , round , thin , black things) to CD , finished 650 singles , & about 1/2 way through 980 LP's , so recording Video's will be a while but the first will be my Bathurst Tapes , every race since 1983 (except 1994)

The kids have a VCR in the family room, but I've upgraded to a PVR in the lounge room. I still don't see the point in a DVD recorder when you are still only recording an analog signal.

My ideal device would be a twin HD, 250g+ HDD, DVD DL burner in one unit. The only way ATM is through a PC, which I don't want.

I occasionally use one. I've got a DVD/VCR combo. I still have a few videos that I watch occassionally. On the other hand, my parent's use their VCR all the time. They always record shows off the TV. The problem is, it seems to be going into the shop on a regular basis. Their first VCR lasted nearly 20 years without a problem (They bought it in 1983), but the 2 they've had after that have been nothing but trouble.

Yes the old VCR's were built to last!
