Default New Speed Camera being considered for Victoria

Now, I did a search and came up with nothing. (Just to make that perfectly clear to everyone).

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117...10-421,00.html

4 Lanes of Traffic! Geez, you Victorians are really starting to get your balls squeezed by this government. I wonder if this will help convert those who still believe that its primarily for road safety. What advantage does a 4lane speed camera have over a single lane camera? If a single lane camera is there, people will still slow down won't they? And don't tell me that drivers pick what lanes they speed in, please.

Hopefully it won't be hidden. Actually, I know that it will be.
Melbourne has one of the largest land areas for a city on the planet, yet we probably have the stricktest speed policing measures. We need to travel the most, yet are penalised for stepping over the 'limit'. They're not fussed in providing speedo testing areas (for free) to promote safe driving.

"The cameras are believed to cost more than $100,000 each, but collect much more revenue than conventional cameras"

That quote sums it up.

Ahhhh Victoria, The Revenue State. I even saw an article of a concealed camera in a wheelie bin. Though I can't confirm whether it was a mockup or not. But it looked sneaky enough to be legit.

If they really were concerned about lowering the death toll (and serious injury toll), why not make the roads a tad better?

I wouldn't have an issue with speeding fines if I knew it was a not4profit setup. ie, All fines would be pumped into roads, car development, cycle paths, level crossings, freeways, signs, lighting, VicRoads/RTA.... but it isn't. All the revenue just starts to pile up in the piggy bank. That is why I think it is wrong.

We need to stop whinging. Pollies don't care about the road toll. I can see them sitting back after a fatal car accident complaining that the people who died wont beable to be fined for speeding in the future.

The whole road toll issue is a little false to some degree. Dont get me wrong we dont want any Deaths.

But

All they look at is number of deaths.
If they actually looked at the amount of registered cars on the road it shows a different figure.
I think they should do it on 2 levels.
Have the number of deaths but then also compare it to the amount of drivers on the roads and Im pretty sure the figure would show a significant drop in deaths if that makes sence.

Just my 2 cents

If it has spikes then we'll just have to make orange cannons and blow the buggers up from a distance. I'm all for saving lives, but this is ridiculous.

REDFIN - From memory the wheelie bin camera was ACT based. Don't hold me to that.

Insofar the Victorian camera issue, in the recent VIC budget - it was made clear that they offer "no apology" for their ongoing 'efforts' at reducing the Victorian road toll, and that these efforts will continue.

You will get more of the same with even greater strategy.

Those pictures have been around for years, in no way connected to Victoria.

Can a pushie set off a camera if it goes past one faster than the limit?

They just brought in a 'wheelie bin' camera to SA about 3 months ago. Haven't seen it yet though, and no fines to suggest I should have. :P

Melbourne Herald Sun ran a poll yesterday.

80.9% of ill-informed Victorians agree with having it.
