Drew remember when we went to Rainbow Beach..
Did you see the photos on the 'wall of shame' in one of the shops there?..

It showed heaps of 4wds smashed, rolled, stuck on rocks, floating out to sea and that.. and most were owned not hired..

Some people just don't have a clue about their 4wds because they drive them around suburbia more than going off road. When they finally go off road, they think they know all.. Result is photos like the one above :

Well, It's a Toyota Surf... which is kinda ironic.
I was trying to do what it was "designed" to do... surf!

Looks like another Fraser Island n00b.

Japanese Tourists + Rainbow Beach = Hilarity.

I remember one time I was on a boat anchored off Morton Island near the large dunes at the Southern End of the Island.

We watched some tourists (i think they were Japanese) 'destroy' a brand new Landcruiser in the space of about 2 hours. They bogged the thing in the water at low tide and panicked when the tide came in. The thing was about to tip over (nasty currents and dropoff) when they were eventually rescued by some old sod in a Landcruiser Troppie.

We couldnt get ashore to help them and besides we were too busy laughing our ***** off about 400m offshore. (i imagine im going to hell now).

Hmmmmmmmm thats sounds exactly what my mate did but he was not chinese.

It got bogged the tide came in and that was that.............

And if it is a hire vehicle the insurance does not cover water damage - my mate found that out the hard way

What a classic

I didn't think hire companies allowed their vehicles to be taken 4wd driving these days

That's gotta be fake, doesn't it?
That looks like weeks, if not years, of sand movement to encase over half the car lengthwise like that. A car doesn't sink into sand like that very quickly!!
If it was so soft, like quicksand, those people standing around would be up to their necks.

We just hired a brAnd new 4WD Hilux from budget while on holidays. When asked where we were intending to drive to in the hire period 1 of the places we mentioned we were advised not to go because it required you to drive about 10km on unsealed roads and their insurance does not cover driving on unsealed roads!

Father in law hired 1 in NT as well to tow his boat that he leaves up there. Was brand new and had just had a tow bar fitted which FELL OFF while they were towing the boat! Luckily only dropped onto the road still attached to the car and they didnt need to test the insurance on that!
