Found this on ebay. One hell of a job to get that dash in and working I would think!

I quite like it! One day I'd like to own myself a nice old school car, but with a similar sort of mindset to this thing, ie late model interior, drivetrain etc but with the old school style. Awesome!

10 points for originality and also for pain and suffering on being the only person to figure out all the details on how to do the conversion. top effort really. |

That is really cool. Very retro indeed.
All you have to do now is finish the interior with all the AU fairmont gear and add a Boss 330ci engine with the 6 speed manual and you got 1 hell of a retro winning ride.

isnt there an official class at the Summernats called RetroTech for projects like these? The last car i remember seeing done was a purple XY GT with ELII XR8 running gear and interior, it looked awesome! i would love to own a car like that, old school looks with modern go!

I know a bloke who is going to try and put either AU or BA XR8 running gear and interior into a coupe.
Good luck I say! It will be tops once it's done.

I think its a great idea. Would be a bastard getting everything settup & running though, but one day when i have A LOT of spare time and some spare cash i plan on venturing into a similar thing. using either an XA o maybe even going a step further and doing it to a Hot rod, reason being is i would want it as an everyday car, something with comfort, economy & something a little different from everyone else.
A whole heap of work though, but im sure in the end it would be quite rewarding to look back and say "Yeah, i did that, and it actually worked out" haha. Cheers Col.

I hope who ever buys it has the same passion to finish it. Definitely one car I'd love to see done.

i like the idea, and have been tossing around something similar with my XB, only thing stopping me really, is that it is a fairmont, and i think one day it might be worth something in stock-ish form.
I think it would be pretty easy to finish it off, at a guess the hardest part will be custom door trims to suit, provided the dash actually works etc... didnt read if it did. |

lol , those Jag IRS diffs would probably kill any xr8 diff anyway ! . I had a jag IRS diff custom fitted into my XE years ago , after constantly dropping the guts of the 9" diff i had in it ! , the Jag diff never gave me any dramas at all , was tough as .

Top marks for effort. A huge amount of work has gone into this.
IMO though the stock XB front panels looked better than the XA ones, and the XA/XB "cockpit" style dash was one of the best designs Ford has ever done. I'd have left it alone. |

yeah i prefer the XB front panels over the XA.
In getting everything working, it says all the aircon etc etc is installed, so all the behind the dash stuff is done, easiest way is to just drop in a V8 in out of an AU fairmont & driveline, a touch of wiring (haha just a touch) and finishing off the rest, custom Black leather interior, door linings would take some time, then exterior, chuck in the sunroof, full electrics, windows, seats, the works (Mirrors would have to be left as is), nice set of mags and you would have a very very very nice piece of machinery. I would love to walk up to an old classic like that and have a peep inside to see all leather black bucket seats, Black Au dash, with woodgrain, climate control, the works.
