I have an Au2 xr8 with a spolier kit
I am looking for an alternative to put something were the mudflaps normally go to avoid getting further stone chips. I have thought about thin black plastic but cannot find some anywhere. Does anyone have any ideas?

I've got a set you could modify into something if you like??? Only cost you postage and it'll be a good starting point for chopping up.

Unfortunately the little inserts on the FPV's which just sit out a mil or two of the skirts don't fit on the AU's, which would've otherwise been ideal.
Solution? Some clear plastic inserts - Bluedriver had these on his old XR8. I think he had some trick with the adhesive so that dirt and such fine particles couldn't form on the backing.

I was thinking of the plastic fender linder but the problem is its not flat so i can cut it out and match the shape. Alternatively i can get that part resprayed and then put the clear plastic inserts?

when i get the kit on my car, the mudspats wont fit anymore... so im gonna put dodgy rubber mudflaps on. and take them off when i get to shows. i will put up with the ugliness to protect my paintwork.

I have the same problem as you. I'm just about to remedy the problem.
Contact a local signwriter. Someone who deals in vinals. Your car is silver, so go look at their colour slides and find a silver that closely resembles your silver and buy a metre of it. More if you want. Around $20. Then measure the area you want to protect and mark it out and them cut the shape. Once its perfect and you have the right overhang, you can use it as a template to cut a few spares. You will need a few mm to come around the side, but it should blend and you won't really notice if the colour is a close match. You will need to do it for each area you want to protect. With the spares, as it starts to become damaged, use a hair dryer, remove the old vinal and replace it with the spares you cut. This is what I'm doing. Get a thick vinal, something that will last for a while. Anyway, its an idea. |

No probs. I'm planning on getting some soon and sorting it out. It looks a bit ugly with all the chips and in my case, the primer shows through really easily.

Mudflaps are soooooo ugly! Especially if you have a nice set of wheels too. The spats do more damage than good anyhow.

Cheers mate i will give them a call.
I was thinking also if this stuff matches really well you could put it under your door handle where i know some people get alot of nail scratches when people open the door.

I think 3M products are very good. I don't know their range of colours, but it might be worth looking into. I was just going to go the track of vinals as they are easily and cheaply obtainable.
