Silly newbie question

Hi, just been looking round a bit at different stuff, looking for a rally/motokhana car with a mate.

I have noticed a fair bit mention of the Pinto motor. I was just wondering what it is?

We only ever got 2lt Pintos in Australia, but they actually range from 1.3lt upto 2.3lt. Originally found in the Ford Pinto (hence the name) from the early 70's that had a reputation for catching on fire.....the car, not the engine. Was seen as a bit of a joke in the USA as being named after a small horse "pinto" also is slang for "small boy's genitals" in spanish. it:
Despite this it turned out to be a big-balls engine powering everything from 90bhp Cortina shopping trolleys to monster RS Sierra Cossies with 300+bhp.....Yes, the legendary Bathurst winners of the late 80's were based on the pinto block with a turbo twin cam cosworth head. :

Not sure if they are any good for motokhanas though as they are quite heavy. Better off going with the x-flow.....Do you want the Lotus/BDA Cosworth story behind that one as well? :

**** the 1600xflow they dont like to rev the pistons r 2 heavy unless u bore it out 2 1730 or 1760 and use magna pistons in it otherwise i would use a 2l pinto they r most preferred 4 rallying etc

sorry bout the much belated response. thanks for that info whooligan.

and, if its not too much work, yeah, wouldnt mind knowing it. lol. always interested in this sort of thing.
