The Segment was really quite good, unfortunatly Carthew needs to get his facts right, or more to the point tell the truth that he would already know, especially about the amount of original unrestored cars left.... 3?? i can go visit 5 within the next 30 mins and thats just metro melb. Its not the first time he's talked rubbish about his cars to talk their value up.

Its going to take something really speacial to crack the million.
I doubt that car will.
Why get ACA involved anyway? Is he having trouble selling it for that price and wants
to hype up the market again?

They like talking s*it on these shows. I loved the comment about how far ahead of its time the car was.

There must have been a lot of really hi-tech taxis around in 1970.

There was only ONE Australian car built in the 1970's that was ahead of it's time. It had standard front disk brakes on all models, rack and pinion steering, all alloy V8 and McPherson strut front suspension, in 1973. And it wasn't a Holden, Ford or Chrysler. The same company was also notable for screwing together front wheel drive, 5 speed hatchbacks in the late 1960s that were also ahead of their time.

But it is an Aussie cult/icon with very low miles, look at what the Yanks are paying for their muscle cars!
(although it is a lot of money for a glorified taxi with the aerodynamics of a brick! LOL)

And they were the lowest quality heap of junk ever made here. Why go high tech when you can't get the basics right. I heard that Leyland was so short of funding they couldn't even change the production line so that the P76 didn't scrape against a certain point on the line.

It says to me "I have more money, then sense" lol. Just kidding. The GT is a highly desirable Aussie muscle car. I'm sure once all the hype is over XU1, GTS Monaro, and A9X prices will skyrocket.

Really they should, because they accomplised as much as what the GTs did.

Part 1/
I think that a "genuine" GTHO P3 has gone way past "An Enthusiests Car" . Some people buy Shares in Co's on the Stock Exchange , some buy Real Estate , Antique Furniture , Gold , Some buy "Collectable Cars" , let's face it , the HO is Collectable , 99.99999% of us don't have the money to buy one , but we don't have the cash to buy a Penthouse overlooking Sydney Harbour either , those who do are gambling on an assett , just like stocks , Real Estate , Gold etc. $1 Mill ? , we'll see in the future .

Part 2/
Ok, comparing the latest GT to an XW/XY GT , they might "look like a Taxi" with a few stripes , but geesh , you needed gut's to drive them like those guys did . and they were a "little different" underneath , and sounded Very different .

Part 3/
Next , compare a new GT ( this is where I put my triple thickness Flame Suit on ) with a Taxi . " put a few stripes on it , make it a little different underneath = GT " , very simplistic , I know . but Taxi (XY) - Taxi (BF) , GT (XY) - GT (BF) both have 36+ years technology difference .

Part 4/
I Wonder what some young guy will be saying about a GT , XR8 , FPV , or 'Phoon in 36+ years time ? could it be ...." Hey , I saw one of those OLD 2007 GT's today , and the guy's crazy , he want's $5 Mill for it " and you'll say , "Mate , you don't know what you're talking about , they were a Classic , I was there when they were NEW" . Young guy say's " Oh , they were only a Tarted Up Taxi .

Very simplistic , but it's all Relative .

As for prices ? this is from 23rd August last year (2006)

http://www.grandtourer.com.au/Aspx/C...tWorkDateID=57

If the link doesn't work , go to " Grand Tourer , Workshop , Current Work , select date 23rd August 2006)

Believe me , Im no GT expert , 4Vman knows more in his little finger than I do totally , I'm just trying to look at it Logically . :

Exactly, I liked his attempt at claiming his Ph4 was the one designated for Moff's race car.

Even though that guy wants $1 million for it he is very reluctant to sell. But then no one has said they are willing.

That's because they only built 22,000 of them. Holden and Ford couldn't get the first 22,000 of any new model right in those days either. I will ask my dad about the production line. He worked there as a design draughtsman from the late 60s until it closed. His job was to design the layout of the plant. The P76 was the biggest car ever to use the line so you are probably right. They called it the MONSTER. They built the MINI, the MAXI, The MAJOR and the MONSTER.

How many Taxis won Bathurst from the showroom floor ?
How many BA/BF GT's are race cars from the factory ?

How many XY HO's were made ?
How many BA/BF GT's were made ?

All questions are relative and add to what something is/could be worth.

Not as simple as it seems.

BA/BF GT have raced at bathurst...

in 1995 a XR6 came 2nd in it class, does it fetch high prices?

in 2002 a TE50 won its class at bathurst, what will its price be in 30 years time?

what about the Vn ss group a, the last true factory race special, will it be selling for 100's of thounsands of dollars in 30 years time?

Food for thought...

My old 6cyl XY GS and my old XB wagon have both raced at Bathurst too, with a few slabs in the back and some camping gear, but we are talking THE race. The one and only endurance race that gets the attention of the nation.
Once they stopped racing production, or improved production cars in that race, they killed the likelyhood of those cars acheiving cult status and sky high prices in the future.
