Default Anyone here is or was a transit officer?

Copied from my post on the LS1 Forums

Gday just wondering if anyone here is or has been a transit officer for railcorp? It's been a long process, but am now waiting for railcorp to tell me that i have got it.

It went something like this

Phone interview > Info session and written tests > Role playing > going to police station to get my drivers license oked by a JP or police officer > 2 Online tests (around 45mins each) > Medical > Physical > Referee check.

So yeah if i don't get in i will be pretty dirty
If i get in i will run outside naked

Coming back to my original question could anyone share some experiences on the job?

Cheers,

Ridin-High

What i heard was they had 1200 applicants, 600 choosen to do test 200 got passed that and went role playing and when i asked the fitness assessor they said they had 60 tests booked in.

But the money is insane for this position

Useless bastards. I passed all their tests and they still didnt let me in. No reason given. Its funny how you always see these scrawny 5ft little men or women strutting around like their killing it, when you could push them over and crawl away. Ive probably seen about 5 transit officers id actually fear, and im on the trains every day. God knows how some of them get in.

Is a transit officer one of those annoying guys/gals who jumps on the train thinking their the cops and bust people for having their feet on the seat for 2 seconds?

their = belongs to them

they're = they are

Just wanted to clear that up after seeing it in more than one post.

Transit officers in Victoria are paid significantly less than police. By no stretch of the imagination could the money be called insane. What do they earn in NSW?

That would be them and that would be called them doing their job.

Just a little curious - but why don't you become a police officer?

Why become a cop when you will NEVER be paid that sort of money in your first few years as a cop?

I made it through the testing all the way to their psych evaluation. Then they told me I was too intimidating! :togo: And now that I work on the stations, I would NEVER even contemplate doing a Transit's job. Who needs that sort of head ache?

Oh like the time there were three drunk guys swearing and drinking in my carriage and the two transit officers didn't do a thing because they were shitting themselves, its a nice job they do sometimes.

Do you think City Rail want thier system stopped over such trivial matters? I worked as a train guard and have had passengers peeing and crapping vomiting, drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes/marijuana, swearing, fighting, shooting up, overdosed, robbed. Trains and Railway Stations can be an unpleasant place at times. And it is frustrating at times when there have been no police on hand to deal with this behaviour.

I don't think you will get many answers on a public forum because of non-disclosure agreements. But I'm sure if they wanted to they could PM you.

Either that or they’re too ashamed to admit it.

Imagine someone here admitting that they hand out parking tickets all day for the local council. Much the same.

More than one post of mine? Jeeze, i'm slipping. Maybe I should go back to school, ha. My bad.

[QUOTE=RedXR347]That would be them and that would be called them doing their job.[QUOTE]

After catching trains, buses and trams almost every day for about 3 years, I'd say it made up about 75% of their (;)) job. Another 20% would have been fines for not having a metcard, or not having a concession card. The rest on not much :p

Like Phill said, when there's someone drinking or swearing whilst catching transport they hardly ever do anything.. They could easily tell them to get off at the next station without wasting too much of commuters time.. Anyway, that's another story.

I would have thought it would be more rewarding actually serving and protecting the community, rather than primarily protecting the revenue flow of a loss making government service. But thats just me.

As for transit officer's earning more than police officers - I gotta say that's pretty disapointing for NSW Police considering what I would have thought the community would value more.

And no - I've never had the pleasure of a run in with any transit officers ever - but as someone else mentioned, a lot of people - most communters, myself included, often see transit officers as the parking police of the railways.
