Default Daddies Monaro.

Hey guys/girls,

Yes i'm aware this is FORDFORUMS.COM.AU (been here long enough to realise that) - if you are one eyed and 110% biased to ford, click BACK - before commenting.

And to all the other top fordforums posters:

Whether it be XY GTHO's, Ferrari Enzos, whatever - i love seeing limited edition cars looked after and put away (i also love seeing them out on the road obviously).

About a year ago when the Monaro lineup was being discontinued, and Holden released the CV8Z limited edition model - my dad bought one to keep. It has been stored away the entire time now, never driven other than home from the dealership. It has 32 genuine kilometers, the monaro has never seen dirt in its life (nor rain or anything for that matter).

I think it will stay in storage for 25yrs+

As it is the only non-registered CV8Z left in the country, we've already had an offer of $92k - that was after 6 months :/

Honestly no one knows how much it will be worth at this stage, i'm not thinking it'll be the next GTHO but i still think it'll be worth a bit in due time - either way i'm just hoping my brother and i get it in 30 years or so

Figured it was worth sharing, heres some pics _2:

Thanks,
-Matthew

Smart move. The only thing that might throw a spanner in the works is if there is not enough petrol around in 25 years time to fill the tank.

What a shame,

imo cars are to be driven and enjoyed, not left sitting under a car cover

Well if he was offered 92k already, imagine what kind of offers you'd be getting in the next 10 years...!!!
But obviously time will tell!

Well I hope your old man knows how to store a car in pristine condition for that amount of time.

Leaving it under a car cover full of fuilds that don't get changed or circulated is NOT how to do it.

Best of luck with it for the future!

Wrong

The GTHO was a BATHURST winning cutting edge "fastest four door sedan in the world" for its time.

I'm not sure what the MONARO has to give it that special edge in order for it to appreciate substantially in $$$$$$

Good Luck anyways.............

According to Holden stock computer there are actually 2 Left in Stock, both in Victoria, ones Fusion and the others Turismo blue i believe.

THeres also a standard CV8 in QLD aswell, and quite a few HSV coupes.

So therefore your Last unregistered theory just went sideways, total waste of a supurb looking car.

I partly agree with that comment as well, but in 30 years time, who really knows if there'll be fuel/oil

and will you be alive/healthy in 30 years time to enjoy the car.

If i were you, id be tempted to drive the car when he's not home, and reomve the k's by driving in reverse ala Ferris Bueller's day off :P

Considering the guy that made the offer owns a dealership himself, and my uncles actually owns 4 (its half his car) - including australia's largest country holden dealership [and awarded #1 dealership in australia], i reckon i'll stick with what i know.

Yeah, he's a mechanic/owns a few garages - it'll be done right. Not the first car he has stored.

Wonder what will happen to Monaro prices when the new camaro is released in aus. The rag I was reading recently said that's why they stopped making Monaro.

What a temptation Mattyj, yes Ferris Bueller certainly comes to mind !

How's your dad going to look after it to make sure it stays pristine ?

Eg: Rust prevention, etc.

Brilliant idea and Id love to do it but A) I dont have the cash and B) I'd have one hell of a time stopping myself from driving it.
Always loved those monaros and would never say no to one.

Be very interested to see what it's worth in say 10 years time.

Thats an interesting idea and it has certainly raised a couple of points- some not worth bothering with!

I love the Monaro's regardless of vintage and contrary to some peoples view, they are far from being a 2 door commodore. having driven both models in V8 format the Monaro is a much tighter and more aggressive package that looks pretty damn good to boot. Yes, it suffered from an aging interior style but in red leather, it still looks good.

I don't think that you need to worry about running out of fuel- I'm quite sure that we will be given a bit of notice- the bowser won't suddenly dry up and there are plenty of alternative fuel solutions that could be brought to market and adapted to standard engines...wouldn't worry about those steps yet!

Good on you guys for trying something different!

By the way, I have 3 Fords but can happily appreciate other marques.

Where do we start.

Up on jack stands
Black plastic on the ground under 'neath it
Under body rust protection
Fresh oil
Fresh Coolant- I think you can actually buy special storage stuff
New Transmission Fluid
Remove battery
Remove spark plugs
CRC Long life sprayed into the cylinders
Moisture absorbent Plugs installed into spark plug holes
Drain fuel system
Inside cleaned spotless rubbers and seals lubricated
Doors not closed fully
Moth and rodent poison left in containers inside the car
Polished and waxed
Car cover on

Done.

I think the above is one way for medium storage say 5-12 years I would say if you want to store it for 30 years you would need to change a few things.

I would personally run the engine in first.
