Default Fuel Efficient autos

Would it just be an auto in lpg?

Are those small autos like mitsibishi mirage in auto good?

Are most the taxis in auto?

I believe all Taxi's are required to be automatic. Could be wrong, but I don't think I've ever seen a manual Taxi.

Auto fuel efficiency, just like manuals, does depend on the gearbox. For instance, the ZF 6 speed is has much better fuel efficiency than the archaeic 4 speed in current Falcons, but after all it is an extremely superior gearbox.. That being said, any car on LPG is going to be fairly efficient.

Not sure about the Mitsubishi Mirage... all I know is I wouldnt be caught dead in one.

well my 290 KW BFII SP with the 6 speed auto is more fuel efficient then my previous BAII XLS work ute, which is a scary reality of how good the 6 speed is in comparison to the 4 speed.

Even giving my car some work its getting 500 kays a tank, i was lucky to get 400 outta the XLS??

There is a difference between fuel efficent and cheap to run. LPG fuelled vehicles generally use about 10 - 20% more fuel than equivalent petrol powered models, it is just that LPG is less than half the price.

Why is it auto with taxis? Is that just more convenient or better for picking people up without stalling it or something?

I know someone who use to always buy lpg cars but thought that the repairs and maintenance outweighed it now he went back to petrol.

Taxi's are auto because they are always in heavy traffic...

Manuals are more fuel efficient. Small cars + auto do not go well.

Manual Taxis

Sheesh I'd hate to have that job..... come on guys can you imagine changing gears through peak traffic for 8 - 10 hours straight you'd have arthritis by the time you were 30.

That is a damn funny one thanks guys I needed a good laugh..

In Melbourne I have been in some manual taxi's. Some of the diesel Hiace vans fitted out for disabled passengers are manuals.

Nooooooo... they are terrible. Never get an automatic (let alone a 4spd one) in a small car with no torque. My driving instructor had an auto mirage which was absolutely gutless.

agreed. most 4 cylinders are pretty shocking in auto, not so bad if you step up to something around/over 2 litres such as -dare i say it-camry. the 2200 in the camry pulls pretty strong in auto.and i would guess similar for other lighter bodied larger 4 cylinder offerings from mazda and the like. no way would i get a 'small' 4 in an auto.

I second that. At my new job i have to drive a toyota echo auto around for 5 hours a day and its pretty gutless for overtaking power, although suprisingly nimble from a standing start. FWD sucks.

i had trouble in the mirage on my driving test i couldnt get it up to 40 or 50 on a slight incline than once i reached the peak it went over the speed limit.

I have an automatic 4 cylinder fueled by super it runs alright up to 70-80km but higher than that takes some effort. 3 speed.

Do couriers use autos?
