Default 2007 Ford Focus Vs. 1998 Subaru Liberty

Hey, probably isn't the best place to get a fair answer, but thats mainly due to the site name :1syellow1

So my question is... whats better the stock 07/06 Focus, or a 1998 Liberty RS? Thinking of the best car for my girl, so of cause other suggestions are more then welcome. If you could reply with a set of pro's and con's it would help, Thanks

in short, i'd choose the focus over the liberty but that should already be obvious

I would've thought it'd be pretty simple....

If your partner isn't a car nut, just stick with the newest model - the Focus. They're a very good car and will come with a warranty.

Both choices are good cars, but the Focus is brand new, therefore comes with a warranty as stated, plus parts should be cheaper in the long run, subarus aint the cheapest cars to maintain.

The Focus is a top little car, better economy than a Liberty, and probably a bit faster, although I'm not too savvy on the Subarus.

For the money you'll spend on an 07 Focus, why not look for a BA-BF XR6 Turbo?

We traded the wifes Focus in on a BA MKII XR6 Turbo and NEVER looked back

Depends on your budget and your needs.

1998 Subaru, costly to service and repair as well as insure, probably needs work seeing as its nearing 10 years old.

My vote was for the 03 Focus. Newer model, probably just out of warranty so you dont need to sweat over mods or "Log Book" services.

And you can probably get one with reasonable Km for half the new car price.

Why not make it a 2003 subaru liberty vs. 2007 focus? Both are about the same price.

I would go all wheel drive over front wheel drive any day...
At 100,000 klrs they both require there timing belts replaced...
Depends on each individual car?

Brand new Focus.

Subaru's are shitboxes when they get some age about them, they are expensive to repair and sound like a 2 stroke mower.

Id stick with the Focus, it would probarly be quicker to, plus airbags...

She wants a car thats manual, looks cute (like the Focus with the Zetec body kit), enough room in the back for passengers, not for long drives but just so they're comfortable, and thats not large (as in RWD, falcons, commodores etc). I'm the one that wants to get her one that goes good with good fuel economy. Wasn't a big fan of the FWD and thats why I was going for the AWD, but many people tell me that theres nothing wrong with FWD. Got a limit of about 25k, including transfer and all that. Would like to get one that plays iPod and looks good...

Well the Focus should fit the bills. You can get Focus LX for under 25K drive-away. There's gonna be a facelift very soon so there might be some sale at the dealers, you should keep an eye on it.

Ah ok, just thought alot went to belts instead of chains. Spose thats what working at a Holden dealership would do for you... didn't have a problem changing my chain but.

Well that depends...the 2.0L from the LR was in the Zetec...and was Auto Only...then there was the ST...I dont know the specifics on that one.
The 2.0L Job in the 2007 Model is the Duratc 2.0 Its a Twin Cam Job...Shared with Mazda except the Mazda has VVT

If your limit is $25k why are you looking at a 1998 Subaru RS you could get 03 GEN3 B4 for less than that & it would poop all over the Focus in every way.

If you want warranty & new car motoring, nothing wrong with a brand new Zetec just watch the build quality :

Would any girl choose a (nearly) 10 year old cardigan car over the latest model Focus? I think not!

I would go liberty, I just bought one for MY mrs, best car she has EVER had, its a 99 model. Only problem she has had, is bicycle riders modifying the rear quarter's :hihi: (good girl!)
I believe the build quality of the Subaru's is MUCH higher than the Focus, at least better than my BA Fairmont Ghia. It is so cheap to run its ridiculous!
I am thinking of buying one my self but the B4 variant :P
