This morning at about 7:40am , on the way to work, I spotted a Lightening Strike Territory stopped on the side of the Portarlington Rd in Moolap on the outskirts of Geelong. It was parked in a turning lane and had the hazard flashers going. What caught my eye were the matt black wheels off a TS with no centre caps. As I passed it, I then spotted the bulge!
It was definitely not an intercooler inlet, it was the bulge on a silver bonnet. I was in the wrong lane to pull over and it was a little fogged up in my old HQ Ute so I couldn’t do a double take, but I’m 100% certain on the bulge. Looked awfully like a test mule to me. I speculate, there’s plenty of Ford people living on the Bellarine Peninsular and some bloke has taken a mule home on an evaluation run and on the way to work, it’s gone to god… |

I thought the Boss doesn't fit in the engine bay, and even if it did would there be much of a market for a V8 Terry? Probably just a mule for something else, maybe a diesel or somebody's backyarder.

Nah, no photos, didn't have a camera on me, not even a camera phone.
Didn't look like a home job as it had the standard TS wheels done in black. If I was going to spend all that cash on a Boss installation, I reckon I'd fess up for a set of Bling wheels too! Wasn't there a Melbourne mob that put a Boss in a territory back in 2004? I seem to remember that they used the entire falcon subframe including rear mounted rack to achieve it though. |

Who's to say it isn't some Ford fan who's fitted a buldge to his Territory? I've seen many XR6's and XR6 turbo's with buldges.. Doesn't mean there is actually a BOSS under it.

I've spotted a VY/VZ ish (in the bright green colour) ute with bulge and turbo terry scoop (scoop moulded into the bulge).
Bulges crop up everywhere.

Maybe this is the latest emerging trend.
Do your car up to look like a test mule to get attention. A few out of place pieces of bodywork from within the Ford family, same camo cladding and flat black stock alloys. See how many car spotters stop you or try and grab a photo. You might even get a magazine feature

Is the Territory and Falcon bonnet the same? I have seen a black XR6 in these parts with the Territory bonnet scoop.

CAPA built their Terror-Tory with a 3v BOSS 3 years ago.
They had is supercharged and I believe it ran 11.7 at Calder. Here are some pics of it from Indy 2004, where it was on display. I think they were trying to sell it for $70,000 last year.

The CAPA Terror-Tory required a full Falcon crossmember, steering rack and suspension graft to allow the Boss engine to fit, along with relocating a heap of accessories, rerunning wires and pipes etc. Naturally it was therefore RWD.

The 11.7@116mph was done by a turbo territory around 2 years ago at Calder.

The CAPA one was basically a Terry body on an XR8 driveline wasnt it? Obviously a bit of modification but in essence that's what it was I think.

13.05 @ 113... yay for a car with mid-high 11's potential that has no grip.

You wouldn't need a bulge on a Territory to clear a boss motor

I didn't get a good look at the plates , so don't know if it had the the ID tag.
I just don't think someone would go to the trouble of reworking a bonnet and then just matt blacken the standard wheels. And who's to say that it had a Boss under the hood, it might be something completely different. Speculation: 2.7 TDV6, 3.6TDV8 3.2TDL6, 4.0DIL6, or 8.2V10! Who knows... I just hope it was a product develoment car and they're working on something, 'cos it sure beats sitting on your hands whilst you watch the only market dominance you have dissapear. |
