I have lost power to my cig lighter, which runs some important stuff for my job. I tried changing the fuse, but it still dosent work. All other electrics ok. Where else can I go from here? thanks!

Is the metal part of the cig lighter loose at all - ie can you turn it by hand?

On the back of the actual socket there is a fusible link type thing that could be blown, resolder this if it is broken.

by the way, which fuse is the cig lighter? I replaced every fuse there, thats how I know its not the fuse. But Im thinking...how stupid is it that there isnt a legend on the back of the fuse box cover !!!!?
Anyone know which one it actually is? |

i had a look in the work shop manual there is a pic of fuse box but no numbers i can see , anyway cig lighter is listed as number 5 at 15 amp blue....... best i can do cheers.

After a search here, I have seen mentioned that there is actually a fuse behind the lighter itself, in line with the wiring it seems. This has to be my problem I reckon, or hope! Anyway, after taking the ashtray out, it seems mega hard to get too. There has to be a easier way. Anyone attempted this before ?? thanks.

The lead that plugs to the back of the socket is showing 12V! Must be the actual socket, but that fusable link dosent seem broken. Man, it cant be that hard, can it?

to get to it you have to remove the dash panel, ie where the radio sits, heater controls, etc...it all has to come out, apparently it's just clipped in, there are a couple of screws at the bottom behind the ashtray

I pulled the actual lighter assembly out without taking the dash apart. However super cheap dont have a replacement. back to the drawing board..

You could always create a new wiring connection for the lighter assembly you have just removed.
You could connect the positive wire of the lighter housing (The middle lug) directly to the battery or switch it through the ignition, and just run a fuse through it somewhere. Just connect the nevative wire from the lighter housing (the outside casing) to the cars earth. That would be a quick fix for now. |
