Default Ford building twin-turbo V8s and sixes

a twin turbo`d xr8??? i doubt we will see one as factory standard for quite some years to come - provided a turbo`d xr8/gt/p is in the works at all. dont get me wrong, i like the idea of a factory standard twin turbo v8 falcon to come out, but i just dont think it will happen in the next couple of years

this will be more common in years to come.
stricter emissions have already forced some engine to go turbo/super charged just to meet the standards.

Could you imagine, a new big cube V8 with direct injection, cylinder deactivation and a pair of turbos. I'd pay a premium any day for that, but typical Ford will string out the release of the technology one by one over the next decade.

The power shift gearbox is also Ford's new dual-clutch design..I want these now, why can VW launch these in a Golf but Ford is still years away?

Not a fan of twin turbo's - just makes everthing more complex, laggy, extra weight, expensive to replace ect. Prefer just a single snail, unless of course this is due to the whole V configuration of these engines (sorry to lazy to click the link)....

i know a guy who works at the ford factory as a mechanic. people for years have actually been able to buy XR6/8's with factury superchargers etc. as an option

Twin Turbo could be laggy but more likely not...in a similar way to VW's TSI engine (Super Charger for low revs, Turbo for High End...only a 1.4L), you can have one turbo winding up on the lower end of the rev range and one about mid-way to leave it surging to the end...
BMW have done it with the 335i...small turbo for lower followed by another to fill the gap...Twin Turbo's Laggy? Not any more.

The last iterations of the RX7 had the small turbo followed by the large to reduce turbo lag. That was 15 years ago, big turbo lag has been a thing of the past for many years.

If they go turbo I doubt the engines will stay large capacity. Thats the whole point, small capacity engine fuel economy with large capacity engine power. We'll be seeing 4.5 or 5 litre V8s with snails I'd say. MMM snails.... :sm_drool:

Being V Configuration motors one would assume they would set it up with one turbo per bank which has the advantage of being able to use two smaller turbos to minimise lag while still creating the same volume as a single large turbo.

I hope we do see them here, can't beat factory force induced for bang for your buck.

the liberty's/legacy's have that variable turbo. small turbo for low revs and a big one kicks in in the higher rpm's. most have found that this setup isnt really that good in terms of performance and most guys are doing single turbo conversions.

Certain ford dealers offered supercharged XR8's with warranty and what not, but ford then cracked the whip and stopped it...

Gee some of you guys sound like you know all about turbo's...
Some wild claims....
On a big engine there would be NO SUCH THING as lag with correct combination.. But there would be sooo much torque I doubt the transmissions, CV joints would handle it...They could use the 4 lts V8 as used is Jag??...Besides they would us the variable scroll turbo's...Either single or double it doesn't matter, forced induction is forced induction...

if i cared enough i would look into it. Beetus is right. Maybe the turbo i was getting mixed with an upgraded size turbo on the BA/BF turbo/typhoons which i think you may have also have been able to do on the ESP's range but there was deffinately an option to have a blower glued to the front of the 5.6's...

go pull someones leg at ford and ask them.

You obviously cared enough to make the fictitious claim! Ford have no factory or dealership options to place a blower on their BOSS motor, not yet anyway.

Mate I was an engineer in the engine dress up (EDU) part of the production line at Ford where they're built. No V8 that came from FPV or the 3v from the states ever had a supercharger. If this was done at a dealership then that's a different story as they're not owned by Ford.
