Default Installing a Passenger Air Bag

Has anyone fitted a passenger air-bag to an AU1?

You can't retrofit airbags to a vehicle that didn't have them fitted. The cost alone makes it pointless. Not to mention the danger these things pose to people without the correct training/knowledge of them.

I beg to differ. I have had one installed on my BA ute.All up cost me $600 installed.Still a lot cheaper than what Ford wanted to charge me. The dearest part was the control module,as they use a different module on the ute as there is only one airbag standard on the BA's. As for cost, what price do you put on the chance of saving someone from injury in an accident.

Thanks RapidXR8. I checked with FORD, who want over $900 for the passenger air-bag alone. Spare-parts advised AU1's only have one module, but no indication of a second module as a spare part. Typical Ford, the same but different. There is also a Ford manual on air-bags. Anyone seen one? Basic Workshop manual has limited info.

Just be VERY careful if you do go ahead with it, before you buy any parts for it check with your insurance company and check with Ford as they may not cover it etc. Ford keep a list of every part number of every airbag that goes into any car they make, and if you have one put in and that number isnt on the list, could lead to trouble with warranty etc.

As for doing it, biggest cost will be the bag itself, mounting is pretty easy as long as your dash has the cutout for it already (if not you will need a new dash), then you'll need a new airbag module and wire it all up.

: Get married and one will appear (an air bag in the passenger's seat).
