Modifying your car, Wiht insurance

Hey guys, im looking into buying a car, but im not to sure how insurance + legalities of RWC etc etc go.
here is a list of what is being modified, could someone tell me if the insurance companies will allow? or problems with vic roads, thanks alot
-ECU
-Different Diff from Single spinner to LSD
- Differnt motor, XR6 el xr6 motor in a fairmont
- Manual Conversion

If someone could shed more light it would help me heaps in getting a car

Hmmm,
It depends on your age, but you'll want to go with either Shannon's or Just car, they both look after you with modifications.
As long as the engine number on the rego sticker matches the swapped engine number, you shouldn't even have to tell them about the engine swap...

im not sure myself. You could always make a 'hyperthetical' anonymous Q's to some insurance agencies.

ive found H2P insurance (raa) good for people under 25 with modified cars. my car is still insured, yes bigger premium, but with a few speeding fines, DUI and a $$$ worth of mods, im still fully comp. insured and costs me $99 a month which isnt too bad given my driving history and mods.

not sure if RAA has H2P in Vic though!

yeah thats what im doing now ringing up RACV:P,
rasied by monkeys, could you tell me what car you have n mods you've done that are legal? i just want to get an estimate on what your paying....
RACV doesn't car about bigger rims or lowering, as long as its legal to vic roads..as engine mods wise...such as manual engine diff....well....the guy is talking to another one now, so hopefuly it turns out ok

You'll have to tell your insurance company about the engine swap. A mate blew the engine in his Liberty and replaced it, a month later it crashed it, it was deemed a write off but because the engine number didn't match the number on his insurance they denied the claim. Not sure who that was through though.

engine wise not much - but my car is on super lows, adjustable camber kit, DBA gold slotted x drilled rotors, 19x8 chrome rims, repiainted, all re-upholstered custom interior, in dash motorised dvd 600w pinoeer amp a x 6" 1 x 8" sub, custom parcel shelf, exhaust, extractors, custom air intake, and a few other bits and pieces

wow you've got a few mods in there...
well i just got info back from RACV, and they said, Because the engine size is the same ei. 4.0 xr with a 4.0ltr fairlane engine, and theres no major difference, it doesn' tmatter at all and manual transmisson n LSD is no problem at all

Word of advice, If you do find an insurance company that will cover you, INSTIST they list them on your policy and get them to read back the messages they have written on your policy before you hang up, because if they ever say they did not know about them you do have the right to ask to see any messages or staff commincations listed on your policy.

However if they are not listed it would be rare the claim would be denied, just would mean you would have to contribute the price difference between the standard part and the mod part or accept the standard part as part of the repair. because if the insurer does not know about the mod they are only liable for the standard part and they may well be able to source a second hand part a hell of a lot cheaper than a special part.

Yeah, I spoke to RACV, they said all those mods are fine, btu things like sound system, or expensive wheels, they cannot insure, only to what the market value is:S

Are you talking about putting the engine from an el xr6 into an el fairmont? Aren't they the same engine anyway?

Yeah putting an EL XR6 Engine into a NL Fairlane, their slightly different, but not enough for RACV to make a fuss about

EL Fairmont Ghia had the XR6 engine, not the base Fairmont.

Im with RACV and they're pretty good with the mods. My last car, an EF Gli, had a full exhaust, lowered with 17" wheels, tinted windows, LPG, and was chipped and they didn't mind. Although I'm not sure if I mentioned the chip.

Current car has a full exhaust and LPG. As long as it's listed on your insurance certificate there shouldn't be a problem.

I'm pretty sure Shannons will let you do anything to your car as long as it's legal and roadworthy.

yeah I second that RACV are very good, they said you can have any mod ie; rims, lowering exhaust as long as it is alright with vic roads...
appparnlty AAMI, only allow you to have to modifications and no more:S
