Default Spark Plugs

Just after some quick info, tried a search and got bugger all. I need new plugs for the XR8 and am trying to figure the best way to go. NGK Iridium or Champion single platinum, both the same $$$ but the champion is a specific listing for the T3. Is there any other options?

I put the Iridiums in my XR8 and havent had an issue with them. Been told by a few places that they are just a normal plug that lasts longer. Mine had Motorcraft platinums in it when i bought it.

My XR8 had the motorcraft in it as well. I replaced mine with the NGK Iridiums as well and have had no issues so far.

I'm having problems with detonation in the mid range so it's a fair issue. I actually just went and spoke to Ford (wait for it) and was told to try the motorcraft platinum ones at $180 for the 8. Decided to give them a go but here's the best bit, he only charged me $107 for the 8 in the end. Something about enthusiasts have to look after each other...

Good Job. The Motorcraft are ok, but I prefer the NGK over the Champions every day!

I wasn't real keen on the Champions either, always seemed to me like a budget brand. Not true really considering Repco wanted $32ea. for their Triple platinum plugs, ouch! If this doesn't work I may resort to using the T3 spec plugs from Ford but I don't think I'll like the price for some reason.

if you were having detonation problems mid-rpm did you try going a colder range?

I tested around 120 spark plugs afew years back with gtech straight out of packet.Champions caused the car to ping more. NGK iridiums seem ok .I would check the colour of the old plugs and then decide which plug to instal.

Stav, did you do a write up with your findings on all the spark plugs you tested?

Yes. It was a few years ago. I dont know if it would be around anymore. I found the denso iridiums at the time made my car faster than ngk iridiums.I installed alot of plugs. The champions at the time were supposed to be a colder range but the wagon pinged its head off with them.I took them out within the hour.

Motorcraft are just repackaged Denso plugs. I went for a fair drive today and am still getting a bit of pinging but only under WOT up a hill. This was after I had reflashed the computer, something that did make the car run a hell of a lot better. Here's some pics of the old plugs.

Damn the camera on my phone is rubbish, new bloody phone too, SE w880i.

I see the problem to much weight with the V16 in it

Should probably mention too that the plugs had done 30k.

It sounds like the flash tune has either taken out a bit too much fuel causing pinging or a bit too much ignition advance for your car.
