the best thing that you could do is do a search for oils and you will get all the answers that you want, this question was asked not so long ago.
each and everyone will have a different opinion, you just have to do a bit of reading and make an informed decision.

that would be great but apparently "OIL" is too much of a common word.
the search feature is a real PAIN sometimes

Depending on who you ask you will get a different answer. There is probably more then 50 differnent oils that different users will recomend and for each and everyone someone else will state it is crap.

Something with the correct weight for your car and more than $30 for 5L... Give it a go, see how you like it. If it's good, great, if not, find something else next time.

JC tends to know what he's on about. Do what he says.

*Chamelion notes down that choice of oil for next time

Castrol Magnatec (it's what Ford throw at them).

I've used Penrite HPR 10 Gas and it was good. I've recently switched to shell Helix Plus (15w/50) and it has quietened down the tappets somewhat. It also looked good when it came out after 5,000 kays. I changed oils mid way through the cycle.

Either would do fine. I have used Magnatec, didn't like it at all, seemed way too watery and the engine was noisy with it. A fair amount was gone at the end of the 10,000 kays also. Less so with the Penrite and less again with the Shell. In fairness though, I've yet to run the Shell for the full 10,000 kays.

I've had the Helix as well in the past.

Basically, I prefer Penrite HPR10, but if another similar spec oil is on special when I go to get the oil, then I will always take a look, and will often buy that instead. But I do come back to Penrite!

Incidentally that's what I have in there now. I can't notice any issues at the moment, but it's only been in there a couple of weeks.

I found the magnatec the same.Seemed way too thin.I went to wsid drags this year and raced on old penzoil. The car was as good after as before. With mobil supersynth oil I went to the drags 2 weeks later.By the end of the night the car sounded rattly and like something was very wrong with it.I had the same experience with the same oil 2 years before but thought it was normal after the drags.I emptied the sump the next day and fould alot of metal flakes in the oil.I will never reccomend or use mobil oil ever again.

I always run Royal Purple for all my fluids as I beleive it's the absolute best but Penrite is pretty good if you're after something cheaper & more readily available.

Penrite or Castrol Edge have given me good service. Was almost tempted to buy some heavily discounted Fuchs oil recently though... nothing beats cheap Fuchs!

searching for "oils" as whiskers suggested instead of "oil" turned up a few threads.

most popular of those was mobil 1 fully synth 10w 30.

i got that one today so i'll give her a go, no improvement i guess i'll try something else.

Funny you should say that. I was chasing some info on oils recently and came across this site:- http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html

If you wade through it there's an interesting bit about Magnatec and it's late introduction and then replacement and finally withdrawal from the US market.

edit: oops wrong page. the Magnatec piece is on the bottom of this page:-

Lately ... I have been using the Shell Helix LPG 15W40 in the ute ... It gets replaced once a month as it is anyway ... goes in clean ... comes out clean.

On the odd occasion though it does get Gulf Western from my Mechanic if it needs it while the ute is in there.

I change oil so often though ... I just makes sure it is clean at all times .... I have no noise from the engine at all even after cam replacement ... to lifter noise at all.

as strange as it may sound I use 10w-50 that i buy from ford for my xr6 its reasonably priced and my engine seems to love it. normally change it and the filter every 5000ks and its still golden, but i let it go to 10000ks this time and didnt look any different. even with 238000 on the clock it doesnt use any oil either
