Default Tickford sunroof not working ?

Hi, I recently bought a 1999 series 1 AU Fairmont, with a factory fitted Tickford sunroof.

However, it doesn’t seem to work at all, no response to pushing the roof button. I did notice that the Aircon relay was missing altogether from the fuse box inside the vehicle even though the aircon/climate control works fine.

I’d had wrongly guessed that the sunroof might have been wired to the aircon circuit and the relay then removed to stop the roof from working because of some kind of fault, ie leak or something.

Anyway I bought the missing green aircon relay from Ford, fitted it to the fuse box….. and … nothing… the roof still doesn’t work.. I don’t know why I thought it would really..

I cant find anything about the sunroof in the owners manual and not sure how its wired in. Does anyone know if it’s a common fault that I might be able to fix myself ?

And why would the green aircon relay be missing from the fuse box but the aircon/climate control still be working with no relay ?

Fitting the missing green aircon relay has made no change to anything in the vehicle at all as far as I can see.

Thanks
Taz

I'm guessing but that relay may relate to non-climate control vehicles.

Have you checked all the fuses?

I'll have a look at my Gregory's wiring diagram and see if I can sort out what fuse/relay you should be seeking.

I have the Tickford Sunroof Factory fitted as well and mine stopped working. May seem odd, but there is a setting in the ECU. Ford reset the setting in the ECU, all was good. So call ford and tell them. Maybe if you have a flash tune, the tuner can fix it up for you.

I had mine done during a service and I mentioned it to them. They fixed mine free of charge. I hope that will be the fix, it was for me, and I wouldn't like to see you blow your money if its not. Have they confirmed that will be the fix?

If you follow these instructions, you can reset the ECU for nicks in 20 minutes today!

Resetting of AU ECU
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showpos...9&postcount=85

Give it a try and if it doesn't work, you've saved yourself the money. If it does work, you've fixed the problem and saved yourself the money! LOL!

Cheers,

GK

you'll find they used the wrong term it would be a BEM reset for this fault and the procedure outlined while great for engine woes will not help here they would use their NGS tester to reset the BEM to factory defaults

Fair point. It still wouldn't hurt any to do a reset though.

Thanks Bucknaked, I went to see the Ford dealer today and they did say that they doubt that a reset ECU would fix the sunroof, but they would give it a try anyway.

I also called into to see my own mechanic that services my vehicles and told him the story, he said if it was a reset then it would be in the BCM settings, he put this gadget in the picture onto my Fairmont, but after going through all of the menus for my model and year and finding everything else he could not find anything about a sunroof to reset at all.

I'm not sure if that is because the sunroof is not a standard Fairmont item and therefore not in the list of resets on his gadget or if the reason the gadget didnt see it is that there is maybe no power to the sunroof therefore it did not exist to the gadget.... he did say it works fine on everything he uses it on.

So I dunno what to think really..

Thanks au3xr6.. Do you mean BCM as in Body Control Mudule ? I cant find any reference to BEM at all.

and thanks GK, I'll definitely try that ECU reset first.

thanks again

Thanks GK & au3xr6, do you think that its still worth taking it into the Ford dealer ? Is their NGS gadget whatever it is going to be able to find stuff like the sunroof that the one in the picture I tried today didn't find?

If you do the Reset and no joy, take it to Fraud for the $99 reflash and then if still no joy, they'd have to have an idea of what it is.

Surely they'd be able to find something, but oh the cost! At the worst they could give you a list of options and the costs of exploring such.

Whilst mine is a Hollandia model supposedly factory fitted on the LTD I think it just wires into the fuse block as the actual kit comes complete with wiring.
The only thing I got with the car was the operating instructions, not the installation manual.
I doubt that this would interface with the BEM as it is not a normal Ford accessory, just an add on.
I will have a look tomorrow for any fuses etc

Good luck. I hope you get it sorted. When I had mine done, my service manager just said they reset the ECU and it all came good. But I do think that maybe rather than give me too much info and the roof was fixed, he just told me they plugged it into the computer, and reset the ECU. I was happy.

Anyway, hope it gets sorted through ford. I guess you could always just go to a Sunroof place and have chat with them as another option.

Thanks for the replies, I did do a ECU reset as per instructions this morning, but the roof still wont open. I recon I will take it to Ford on Jan 7th and see what they say. I guess its better with the roof stuck closed than stuck open

I took the opportunity to do the chrome shifter surround mod while waiting for the ECU reset .. my first ever mod..

thanks again for your helps.
