Harness For a Rottweiler

Hey Guys,

Strange question to post in a car forum I know. But Does anyone know where I can get a harness for a rottweiler that has metal clips and soldered rings? Even a brand name that makes them.

My dog is 60kg plus and it doesnt seam to matter what I tie him up with, he just breaks it, even snapped his choker chain.
I need to carry him in the back of my ute, Ive got doubled up stainless wire cable bolted down pretty well. Just need something he wont break now.

Any help would be great.

Try a vet shop or one of those pet mega shops. Or online. Other than that see if you can alter one. Either that or call him superdog.

You can always buy one of these collars rated at 5 tonne breaking strain not that expensive either.

You could always try a saddlery or someone who does custom leather work and get him something custom made to your specs

Yeah that shouldnt break in a hurry. I kinda wanted a harness tho, incase I have to stop in a hurry or am involved in an accident, that way the poor bugger doesnt get choked to death.

Im thinking a saddle joint is probably the way to go.

P.S. I tried the Dog clubs and they all had a winge at me for putting him in a ute. So im like, well how do you transport your dogs. "We use airconditioned trailers with individual pens for each dog". Yeah ok, good luck with that.

a 60kg rotti must be fun lol, my puppy ridgeback X collie is only 20ish kgs and she is a handful

Mate, your probably best with a cage.
all the local pigdogs travel in a cage, its safe(er) for the dog and passers by.
i too recon your best of going to a saddlery, or you could have the dog trained.

Looked myself, nothing even close to fitting, same type of dog but not as heavy, best option get something made, some of the ones I looked at, apart from the XL sizes being no where near fitting, were made of thin material with weak looking clips, something that another dog could easily chew to pieces.

Caribbean Gardens & Market have some guys that sell the full cheat harness, I had one about 10 years ago heavy 6mm (1/4 ") thick leather, triple stitched and riveted together with a welded "D" ring for the car restraint or leash. it was like this one in the link but a LOT more solid, my dog max was a rottie and weighed 67KG @ 22 mths old.

It appears to me that you do not have a dog. It is a small horse which is used to pulling a plough. What you need my friend is a bridle.

Seriously though, I agree with what has already been said. Look on line (google), vet shops, dog clubs, or contact Rotty breeders and see if they can help you out with through their suppliers (surely they have gone through similiar stages as you).

my rottie/mastiff cross pulls out of his harness, I got mine at a pet supermarket. He doesnt break it, he just pulls backwards on it and it gives and slips over him. Im guessing this is exactly what yours will do too!

Any pics of the Rotty? Have a soft spot for them though never had the pleasure of owning one, a 60kg one is one hell of a dog!

Wow, our old male rotty weighed about 60-70kg's. Basically a bear when he stood on his hind legs.

We used a choker chain on him, but saying that he never really went into the back of a car, only if he was going to the vet.

I'd say best bet for a chain would be online.
