i know engine builders are slow at getting things done but Panelbeaters would have to be the worst at getting work done on time or what ????What other trades are as bad ??????????

Builders by far - I cant see a Panel beater delivering 7 months after the date they advised the car would be ready. But it happens in the building industry

Resto's tend to run over, smash work should tick along and be done on time, most of the time.

No drama's with pano's here. My problem is with mechanics who take over a year to rebuild an engine then don't complete it. See mini link below.

ugh, most of my work is on time. It comes down to parts not arriving, additional damage and/or R&R work, paint problems etc. That can slow down a job, but most of the time the shop i work for get cars out on time.
On the flip side there is customers who come to pick there car and don't have money etc. Restoration drag out because its a Smash repair shop, the primary focus is on repairing cars. Most restoration jobs are done when there is downtime, and they also fiddly. And customers can be a pain aswell, we've had a HX at work for 3 years now, one year nothing happend because we had no bonnet to aling the front end, we finaly got a bonnet, but waited another 4 months for the hinges...

hansens tyre and mechanical/RACQ in emerald is the slowest by far..... had my brothers ute since before chrissy, putting new oil pump gear in it and it was only touched last week, not to mention it took them 3 months to put a AUX input shaft in, poor kid is a apprentice carpenter and gets around by the one workshop,

I cant stereotype the whole trade from one experience but I'll tell you I waited close to 5 months for a respray that was promised to be done in 1 month, everytime i went to check up on the car I was told "yeah it'll be done next week", it was frustrating the sh!t outta me since all the parts where there it was just a matter of getting the car painted

i hate to annoy any spray painter out here but its usually a delay in *good* painting conditions that slows a job down...or so they say

Smash repair work does get in the way of Resto's, there's no doubting that. Alot of the work that I have done in the past 4yrs could have been finished ALOT quicker if it wasn't for the quick money from accident damaged cars. Specialist Resto shops cost that little bit more *cough* but your paying for the honour of having your car worked on at every available chance. Expect outside variables to come into it as well, absenteeism is a killer for small workshops.

I dropped my car off in May 2000 and the panel beater (restorer) said pick up September 2000. Picked up October 2002. I paid $5000 for him to start, and the balance when finished.

I think its a case of both parties being unrealistic in most case's Panel beaters telling people what they want to hear and customers not being able to understand the time that is needed to do the job.
I also find that the longer that they have to do a job the longer they think that they can leave it in the corner before starting it. These problems that you all have had are the same reasons why I became a spray painter myself so I now no longer need to deal with being let down any more |

My BA XR8 Ute went in to crash shop on July 16 07. needed new front bumper, rear bumper, drivers side front gaurd, bonnet, diff, hard top, damage was caused to drivers side of tub, tail gate, left front gaurd. so i decided to respray the whole ute to make sure there were not going to be any paint matching problems. They have not had to order any body kit parts as i supplied them with a complete Genuine FPV body kit to fit.
I was told last Friday that it should be going into the spray booth this week, the thing that does get to me but i feel that i cant say anything is the amount of cars that have come and gone since mine has been there, these cars have only been smaller jobs but surely they have to join the list. I think this is the problem with Country towns as we have 3 crash shops and this 1 is better than the other 2 and they also get work from outside of town so they are always flat out. I know i am going to get a great job when it finally does get done but i am getting sick of driving around in a EA 6 cylinder Wagon that i had to go out and buy last year in november as i still didnt have the Ute back and it was causing to many arguments borrowing one of my Parents cars all the time. |

No problems with my repair shop. Happy to give a recommendation to anyone looking for a good place in Revesby (sthn - sth/west Sydney). PM me.
They replaced every panel following a hail claim within 3 weeks, faultless repair and no rattles from the interior refit, even after 2 years/50K with some dirt road driving and on time. 2nd claim for 'keying' was similarly well done. They have done family cars too and always top quality, and on time.
