Default My Car will not start

I have a XB falcon coupe and have swapped the engine for a AUIII XR8. I have used the XR8 dash, computers, loom and ALL components. When I try to start it nothing happens. No ignition lights nothing. I can hear a relay clicking only. The circuits always powered of the battery work, lights, horn, locks etc. When the key is off a light just to the left of the odometer flashes slowly. I think it is the alarm light? My question is this a symtom of smartlock locking me out or maybe some other fault I have created. Thanks

the light flashes quickly and wont allow starting when it senses the wrong key/hot wiring, the ecu needs a signal from the body module to allow it to start. ah sorry thats what i meant in my last post. the light goes out when its all good which is what yours is doin, so the problem doesnt sound like its with the smartshield.

hmmm tricky... I'd be inclined to double check your earths first off.. iirc you should get the noise of the fuel pump priming when you forst turn the key.. Can you hear the pump whirring?

No I can't hear the pump. I had to fit one external. I have had it running direct from the battery. I am pretty sure I have the earths although there are not that many. One on the EEC, Battery, rear lights, front lights. And engine to body. And dash to body

I have used the entire loom. I only spliced in the rear lights. I should have mentioned that I have not got all systems connected. The interior lights, front lights, windows. Yes I do have the wiring diagrams. But access to the ECU is difficult. I have mounted it as in the AU so the connector is covered

OK I am relieved that it is not smartshield. So it must be some thing else. I will double check all the plugs and earths tomorrow. As you can imagine this is a pretty big project, so an error is possible.

Do you have a mobile guy that has the scanner.. If it is a complete swap it should punch out any codes.. It might save you a heap of time chasing your tail.

I have a Manual. I will have to find a guy with a reader. I intend fitting a Car PC and OBD interface at a later stage. Maybe I should hurry up this stage. At the moment I am at the fit the engine, debug it, then remove the engine stage. I will then get the car sand blasted and painted before I refit the engine. Thanks for all the help - Steve

Bugger being informed - what about some progress pics.

Good luck with getting it started - it may be fuel pump related though. IIRC, the standard smartshield has 2 way immobilisation - once on the fuel pump, and one on the starter/ignition. So if you have the fuel pump wired direct to battery, the ECU may not be getting the right signals to start.

:evil3: Red face time. The fuse had blown for the engine. After lengthy troubleshooting I found that the fuel pump was shorting thru to its case. I need a new fuel pump. I am not 100% sure it will start but at least I am a lot closer after wasting a day. The smartshield light flashes once then goes out. Here are some photos.

Mate... that will look awesome when finished... are they original Boyd Coddingtons, or wannabe's? Hope you also stick to the full AU interior, and not a mix/match...

Those mags are Chip foose not Boyds. I intend to keep it mainly AU. But to be honest I do not like the roundy bits in the middle. They will be very hard to change though
