Hi all, I just got my 'new' Tickford brake set-up for my AU1, which included brand new RDA slotted rotors (which are huge!). The calipers etc need a clean up, but all looks good. Anyway, my question is, what is this strange bit 'missing' from the rotor, looks like it's been machined out so I assume it's meant to be there, but just curious as to it's purpose... It's in the second photo, and it's only one rotor that has it. My old RDA slotted rotors don't have any bit like this on them. (Sorry it's a little blurry)
Thanks in advance. |

I would have thought they'd be wear indicators!

I run RDA 330 Rotors on my ED, they are great, no prpblems even though one is totally machined on the outside and one isnt.
Great rotors.

Mine have this as well.
I have no idea why it is done ... not sure if it is a wear indicator ... i wouldn't thing you'd wear through rotors that much.

Nothing to do with balance or wear.
Just poor casting, although it doesn't affect the rotor. Balancing involves removing or adding material but, as you can see, the area missing is "as cast". Also, if your rotor wore that much, it would shatter long before it reached that area. Maximum wear on a rotor is around 3mm. |

What do you mean by 'as cast'? If the outer bit is there how can in be a casting issue? How would an area that had been machined out to balance the rotor look? Just trying to understand. As long as it isn't a defect, as such, I don't mind, though it does look a bit dodgy.
