Default leather seats, thinking bout a retrim?

after seeing 70AST's interior when i first brought my AU and checked out the majority of the au workshop builds i have wanted to do similar.

here is a pic of 70AST's interior im sure most of you know it afterall it is :sm_drool:

this is just a quick photochop done on a picture of my seats, to get the idea of it.

do you think i should reshape the seats as he has, or leave them the same shape. also was thinking of redoing the roof carpet black and all A,B and C pillar trims black to match.

here is a pic of my standard interior

i think it will look good and compliment the car, it is very similar to the blue/black seats of the t3's (maybe i can find a set for a decent price, i doubt it though)

I don't know but you could sell your leather, buy a cloth set and get them recovered.
A bit messy but I reckon selling your as is would make you some $$ to get what you want.

I've always been a fan of mick's (BLUPRNT XR8) retrim. When the ute eventually gets done, i'll probably go a similar style. Leather with microsuede

As for roof lining, I would definately reconmend it. I have done a DIY job of mine and the interior is much nicer to be in. So much darker, and alot nicer having a full black shade rather than a black/grey shade.
Also, I agree with UK, don't get those seats re-trimed. You should be able to sell them for a couple of hunderd.

Cheers

I just got mine back from the trimmers last week. Very similiar to 7OASTS

new seat swabs for the bottom in Italian leather (the same stuff as they use on the new BMW's)

I replaced the crappy factory leather, and the difference between the plastic leather Ford use and real leather is amazing

I have known the trimmer for a while and my AU interior was 'when you get around to it cash job' so I didn't pay top dollar. An average leather (ie the higher the quality of the leather the more you pay obviously) for four door trims and seats is around the 2k mark, closer to 3 large for the top shelf imported stuff. A mate has a 'lesser' grade leather and it is still 10 times more supple than the Ford gear.

I supplied the new Ford seat base swabs to wipe away re-trimming 100k old seats.

A few things to consider when you get your seats re-trimmed,

Your size and also your seating position.

I am only 6 foot and 90 kilo's but my seating position for my size is close to the steering wheel. I also prefer the seat quite upright meaning that I put alot of pressure and wear on the outside seat bolster. That is why I didn't get the extra padding incorporated into the upright swabs. As the leather is so soft, it will obviously wear faster too.. To see what I mean those guys with cloth seats will have little balls of wear in the fabric along the outside bolster from dragging yourself in and out of the car.

While it would be nice to have more of a cocoon feel to the seats, it just wasn't practical for me as I would have to slide the seat back to let myself out.

I was always of the opinion that the blue inserts in the T3's were a little bright. If you go a darker shade of blue very similar to your 'chop it should set the interior off very nicely with the darker coloured pillars and roof lining. I'm thinking the same shade of blue as the Electric Blue coloured inserts on the Momo wheel that the XR's had.

^^^The trimmer who did the work is a forum member STORM, awesome job at a nice price to.
Guy's you should have checked the for sale section last year as these were for sale but no on wanted them, put them on ebay and sold for $1400 : That was 2 seats, 2 doortrims and console lid, went into a nice AU3 Ute, not bad considering I spent $1200.
My new interior is totally different, will post a pic soon if you like.

Here you go mate, went the reverse affect for something different, really happy with it and ultra comfy. Modified the lumber and headreasts while he was at it.

Lumbar support looks pretty good! Looks similar to what I want to do "lumbar-wise", currently looks like this... :yeees: Needs retrimming IMO..

ive seen the ebay kit put into one AU and while they look ok, they do not look as good as a proper re trim. on the one i seen the rear seat looked good, but the front seats looked like they were a bit of a loose fit.

much better look than standard cloth seat in base models
