hey, guys just saw this about ford, i don't know if it has been posted yet
"Ford could again drop the V8 engine from the Falcon range in response to environmental concerns, while diesel power will at last be available for Falcon and Territory in 2010. Will new FG XR8 be the last regular Falcon to be powered by a V8? Ford Australia is not guaranteeing the engine's presence in a future line-up. Ford could drop the V8 engine for future Falcons. With sales of Falcon dipping and emissions rules getting tougher, Ford Australia’s recently appointed president Bill Osborne is offering no guarantees a V8 engine is part of the Falcon’s future." $h!t!!That'd suck. It'll give Holden all the V8 sales then.They are going to slowly kill us. We are just trying to get out of all the damn car segments. weak if you ask me.
The Turbo will out sell the V8 this model anyway in my opinion. Holden has their engine capacity going up and ours is going to be going down and keeping with similar power levels. We NEED Cubes damn it. More cubes give you more pubes!!

FORD again are being short sighted. HOLDEN has a V8 in all there pieces of bog. Even the new Estate has the V8 in all the models. When will FORD learn ??????????????????????

I think it will be a while before the yanks will buy V6 turbo pick-up trucks or mustangs. Whether it makes sense, people love V8s, and they will give us what we want.

Ford will drop V8 again.
The I6T is to close in power and torque whilst being more effeciant and lighter. ASAIK only XR8 and FPV have V8's now.

Well doesn't that suck, No more V8's.... Hold on no it doesn't. The turbo sucks lol.
It is only a matter of time AFAIK, till this happened. We can only hope they adopt the 5.0L and FI it. Now that would be a seller...

Here's another scoop.....
One day there will be no cylinder cars....... Rest assured whilst there is an Australian market - big enough to make money - Ford will continue to produce a V8. If the market isn't buying the product it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out what happens to the product. What does a rocket scientist say when he comes across one of these no-brainer questions?????

Holden has so many V8 models because their sixes have usually come up short - against the Falcon I6 anyway. The Turbo 6 is good enough to convert some V8 diehards because it has a good spread of torque (like a V8) and now is quicker than the V8. If they take up the 5.0 litre V8, it would have to be boosted because the turbo 6, whether it is the I6 or V6 will leave a N/A 5.0 litre V8 for dead. There will be room for a future V8 if they adopt technologies like Displacement on demand to make it more efficient.

so long as fpv keep the v8 i dont mind.
was only when ford dropped the v8 because we had no other performance cars at all, well to me but ill admit if i ever buy a new car itll be a turbo. |

That article is a joke, and it contradicts itself. It says Ford might drop the V8 then they quote Bill Osbourne talking about the 5 litre as a possible option for Falcon and basically admitting they are looking at a new V8. Duh.

Although it would be good to see the 8 continue it will not be the disaster they had last time they killed it off. They had no viable alternative 25 years ago (yes the XE was that long ago, feeling old). Fast forward to the 21st century we have a turbo 6 that gives V8 performance with the moderate boost set at the factory, add a flash tune to bring the boost up to 10 PSI and you would satisfy any V8 die hard. I love an 8 myself although I currently have a 6 but if i was buying a new falcon with no $ restraints I’m really not sure I’d get an 8, I would give the F6 serious consideration. turbos are now reliable economical and quick.
It would be a shame if the V8 was axed but I wouldn't be as devastated as I was in the 80s when all a falcon had was an optional EFI 4.1 pushrod 6 with less power than out current NA 6 they were dark days indeed

Dark days!!???!!
The V8 free 80's were Ford Australia's golden years, the XE took the number 1 spot for the first time and more XFs were built than any other Falcon ever because of the demand. Not to mention the 1988 EA Spack equiped with a Manual was faster than many of the 351 Clevelands from factory.

Even if Ford kept running the V8s they wouldn't be percevied as "performance" by the kiddies now. So what would of happened if Ford kept running the V8s? Building the ESP Carby 351 into the XF while choking pollution gear would have ruled it out performance wise even more (even to the point where the 250 was faster?). Possiblely updating to a EFI Cleveland (I wouldnt think so). *EDIT* Brock's HDT/ Walkingforsure's HSV is probably the reason why Ford is percieved as inferior peformance wise now, and thats only because Ford's relucatance to make high performance cars and thus domination of the "bogan" market.

XF Production 220 100 now correct me if i'm wrong but it seems to me there were 27 100 more AU falcons produced!so the XF was the greatest and most produced falcons? seems not !!!1 and from 83 to 91 there were no real performance options in the falcon so as i said dark days Quote:
