nice!
what you should do is put the top back on, but have a sealed layer under that with oil in it, so when you open the cap it appears to be full of oil. haha

The top section is getting put back on upside down, and will be making a new top for it, will have locators in the top of the bottom section so that the top section sits nicely.... if that makes sense... the oil suggestion sounds like a great idea, but they are going to to be moving alot and my welding skills (rather my pos welder) probably wouldnt make a good seal on it lol but hopefully tonight i will have the front panels put on and can start on the top section untill i get some more steel for the walls of the draws

just finished the tacking on the lower section, just need to get the walls before i weld them in place, lines up pretty well apart from 1 join between the 2nd and 3rd draws, but pretty good i think for an auto elec :P

Very nice , although it would be good to put slits inside the draws and have the locking mechanism slide down through the holes in the draws from the top of the barrel , that way you dont have 2 big bars ruining the outside look of the toolbox runnig down the outside of it, awesome job though , very original , 9/10

This is very good. The cycle of life continues.
Let’s see. Iron ore dug out of the ground. Coal burned in a Coking oven. Mixed together in a blast furnace. Turned into steel coils at Pt Kembla. Processed into sheet steel. Sheet steel pressed into panels for a Leyland P76 P76 recycled and turned back into sheet steel. Sheet steel turned into something really useful, a drum. A really useful (and more reliable) drum turned into something even more useful… A toolbox. Efgiar, you deserve to be nominated for the Nobel Prize for services to recycling and the environment.

Love this toolbox but I have a suggestion too. Instead of locking it at the front like that (which covers up you good work), have you thought about welding an eyelet on the back of each drawer and sliding down a locking bar from the top? The eyelets could be either inside the drum and out of sight or they could protrude out the back to make it easier to get the bar in situ?
Either way, looks great ;) Last edited by GTP006; 01-07-2008 at 03:45 PM. Reason: sp |

hey guys, thanks for all the comments, gtp006, i did think of that but having tools inside it would be apain to leave an area clear just to lock it, but now that i think more, there is a small gap on the outside of the draw at the front, might be something to look into after i come back from sydney (the whole reason im building this ) but this is what i came up with, with the short amount of time i had (should be in paint by now, goes on the truck sunday morning to head to sydney) so its a bit of a rush lately, anywho, here is some more pics
well i made these handles for the toolbox and the finished product minus cleaning up the welds and paint

lol, how long does a professional opinion take? :P but yeah thats an idea, but to improve on that idea and have it TOTALLY hidden, u could have the lock at the back of the draw, with 2 holes, and 1 bar, and you put it in 1 hole, it locks the draws, and then pull it out, turn it around 180 and put it in the hole directly behind it for hidding if you catch my drift and the top flat bar is recessed in the top of the drum... and it totally hides the holes, and everything
