Who would have thought?! Has the Nissan GTR been beaten already? Well, there goes GTR’s bragging rights!
So quick after claiming the fastest time around the Nurburgring, the GTR appears to have lost its top dog status to the new 2009 Corvette ZR1. The ZR1 has lapped the Ring in a time of 7 minutes 26 seconds (beating the GTR by 3 seconds), with anticipation of faster times if the weather was better during the record breaking run! The car was stock standard except for the communications and safety equipments (i.e. Fire Extinguisher). According to the engineers, even the tires were also stock, and the Corvette was running on normal pump fuel. The 6.2-liter supercharged engine powering the Corvette ZR1 packs 638 bhp/ 475kW. The monstrous engine would bring the american muscle car to 100km/h in a blistering 3.4 seconds, and breaking the quarter mile mark in 11.3 seconds. A simple analysis of the Nissan GTR vs Corvette ZR1: 1. 3.8ltr twin turbo vs 6.2ltr twin-screw supercharger 2. All-wheel drive (ATTESA E-TS) vs Rear wheel drive 3. Bridgestone’s semi slicks vs Michelin PS2 4. Twin-clutch sequential gearbox vs traditional box 5. 7:29 vs 7:26 The Corvette has weight and power on its side, whilst the GTR has AWD, semi slick tyres (not production, for the Nurburgring only) and twin cluth sequential gearbox on its side. |

Very impressive. Quote:
Also, Nissan never claimed that the GT-R was the fastest production car. The Zonda F Clubsport and the Carrera GT were faster than the Once again, kudos to Corvette. Last edited by Ives; 21-07-2008 at 03:18 PM. |

The R33 Skyline GT-R does 8min 1sec around the nurburgring. 430 Scuderia, 599GTB, F430, 360 Challenge Stradale are faster than the Skyline. |

The Skylines that XR-CHIEF is talking about, probably are the R32, R33, R34 Skyline GT-R.

Awesome, wish they sold them here in right hook. Possibly the only car in the 150k price range that I would take over a Porsche or a BMW Z car. I will be visiting the Corvette factory and museum late next month and am looking forward to checking the new beasts out.

And I suspect the gauntlett has been thrown. Nissan will better that time in the V-Spec, then Corvette will fight back and I am fairly sure Porsche will not take this lying down...... |

Thats a great effort indeed.
I thought the 427 version they brought out was a cracker, this one tops it. Wonder when ford will listen up and and bring out a 5.4L blown version in something that can handle other than the Lightning Pickup.. The Gt isnt bad, just needs a bigger brass ones.

MSRP of the Corvette ZR1 is $102,450US.
MSRP of the GTR will start at $71,900US. So $30,000 difference between the two. |

Well, yeah... if Ford wants to beat the ZR-1 then they'd have to do better than Ford GT.
I think it's time for the Ford GT to get an update or two. |
