Wink Supercharge or stroke?

Hey guys was thinking about supercharging my Au xr8 ute. Can some one tell me whats involved and if its a good road to venture down?

Or should i stroke it- For 10k i think id be better just tracking down a te50 for - 30k having both and what the T3's value rise.

So if thats the case can someone tell me about supercharging- whats involved, parts, price, labour time etc, It would be SO appreciated hey... Thanks heaps peter

Go a TE50 - all the power and none of the work. Plus you'll have one of the best looking and sounding modern muscle cars!

The primary concern with supercharging or turbocharging an engine "aftermarket" is that the insurance companies will not touch you. And if you can find one that will then the premium will be about 25% of the cars market value - so you will effectively be "buying" your car all over again every four years.

However you can stroke it and no-one cares basically.

IMO, keep the XR8 ute standard and buy it a T3 mate.

Either option will cost you a minimum of $5-6k easily to do the job properly. As has been mentioned above, a blower just about voids you with the majority of insurers whereas a stroker is a little more "insurer friendly". If you go down the stroker route you will obviously have to do the bottom end and it is also a good time to do heads and cam (I hesitate to bring up cams around you :hihi: ) whereas if youre strapping on a blower, depending on what boost you plan to run, you may be able to just put it straight on. If you want to then modify things down the track with a blown engine though you do need to be a bit more careful about your parts choices.

Of the 2 I would pick a stroker simply because it is "easier" in some ways than a blower and the initial cost isnt quite as high, but if your budget isnt all that limited then a blower would be the go - instant bolt on torque and away you go. Buy shares in Dunlop too.

Then of course adding a T series into the mix - well it depends really, do you like your car enough now to throw more money into it and most likely never see that money ever again, or would you prefer to jump into a factory optioned car with all the fruit that may potentially be worth a heap one day.

MY 2cents .. go the blower if you are keeping the ute much more fun than a stroker, and shannons will insure it providing your not uder 25 and have reasonable history .. I doubt if you sold the ute pluss the 10k you will spend on mods would get you a decent T3 anyway

^^ Dude, is your car back on the road again?

I remember some time ago you took it off the road to do a couple more mods to it? How did all that end up?
