Default Mechanics/Apprentice Mechanics

Are there any Mechanics / Appretices on here from the Melbourne area that do their own work on the side / weekends.

I imagine there would be a decent amount of people here that would be willing to pay cash to have a knowledgeable person help out with car projects.

For example I want to change over to a manual gearbox in my AU falcon and I have a warehouse and the tools and a mate that has a fair idea what their doing but having that expert on site would make all the difference.

I'd imagine that their may be a few people around that might be interested to make a couple of hundred cash and have a few beers for helping blokes out on a saturday/sunday.

Surely there has to be a few Apprentices on here? How much do they get paid a week these days? $400-$500, $200 for an afternoons work seems like a good deal to me.

Ive got a few mods planned (cam install, manual conversion) and have no problem getting the parts, but I dont have the experience to do the job myself and seeing as its my daily, cant afford to get stuck half-way through. They are also the type of jobs that workshops dont want to know about or charge you a fortune for the inconvenience.
Even just having someone there to bounce questions off would help greatly.

Having mechanics as mates sure is helpful!

Being a mechanic and having a mate in IT (me) is also helpful to them lol

I can see the argument that if you went to a work shop they charge $80-$90 an hour so why should a bloke work for $20-$25.
I suppose not every mechanic owns his own shop and I'm sure that the guys who work for him wouldn't be on much more. Plus your not paying for the workshop, tools, rent etc and your not paying for him to do all the work either.
$250 cash in hand for giving a bit of advice on a Saturday/Sunday has to appeal to somebody.

I'm a mechanic, main problem with backyarder stuff is generally people have supercheap tools and basic basci tools so if stuff goes wrong it is hard to fix... also done a few and it usually backfires as in people seem to think your a charity, although 200-250 is pretty good money to supervise seomthing

Im an apprentice, though only first year at this point but, I generally do well beyond first year work, though i wouldnt consider doing that at this point as I wouldnt consider myself experienced enough yet, but maybe in time. cos yeah the wage as an adult apprentice is pretty low, bit over $400 per week after tax
