Xr8 engine cowlings- do they retain heat?

Hey guys, was wondering what peoples thoughts are on the Au xr8 engine cowlings- and heat retention??
Coming into summer should we be taking our engine cowlings off?
storing them and putting them on only for shows etc?

well commode owners take theirs off because they reckon they run cooler without, but the au ones don't seem too restrictive...

I aint got one one the mont. So in my eyes they are over rated anyway.

the LS1 items are like a shell over the engine..
where as the XR8 ones are just a lil cowly thing that still retains what seems to be a bit of airflow

As above. I dont think it would make any real difference.

I think the ford version may actually help improve flow around the intake. rather than hinder it, i personally would leave it on, just remember that the temp compensation maps in the stock eec are set for it, if you do anything that changes the temp of the inlet in comparison to the Air intake temp sender you will actually make the tune of your car less stable.

They take them off because they are ugly ..
.. I took mine off my VY SV8 and replaced it with a set from a VZ which just cover the coil packs, not the intake.
I'd doubt that the engine cover will retain any more heat than not having one and just having the hood closed. If you were worried about it maybe you could provide some sought of venting for the hot, underhood air?

It certainly wouldn't do any harm. They dont spend big bucks on R&D, drive to Alice Springs and back without finding out a couple of things.

Beat me to it, they wouldnt be on there if they retained heat. Plus it hides the 'messy' windsor bay. Keep it on, i took mine off to degrease the bay with the intention on leaving it off but it soon went back on.
