Question XR8 220kw extractors?

Hi all i have a series 3 xr8 220kw model. was looking at upgrading the extractors and cats but is it honestly worth it or are the standard ones pretty good? i already have a 3 inch exhaust and that made pretty much no difference....

Get rid of the standard headers. Big restriction. Get yourself a set of Pacemaker PH4001 and a nice pair of metalcats and the car will be singing.

Are you talking about the standard headers? If so, companies like Pacemaker wouldn't exist if they didn't offer an improvement over stock.

He probably meant that if you don't plan on doing any future mod's, they are probably ok for what they are, but there is allway's a better product, and there is when you look at the aftermarket header's available, I have the Herrod header's on mine along with their 2 1/2 ich exhaust, and I havn't looked back over the standard one's.

i had the same set up, standard headers & cats and 3" cat back big bore system. upgraded to a full Herrod system with 2 1/2 right thru. Gained 12rwKW (and 20Nm of torque), but it felt like alot more, especially down low. note though, NO cats, don't have to have them in NZ. sounds awesome now.

Extractors with 3" system will be fine. 3" loses down low, but breathes better up high.

The 220kw extractors are pretty good, i had them on mine cut off at the bottom and tapered into a 2.5inch mandrel bend, which then went into my hi flow cats. Worked well, i put the pacey 4006's and totally regret buying them, there a total pain to get on and off, and half the welds on them are in the way of the bolts and thats with unbrako small heads. I had to tap out the oxygen sensor bungs in them. add to that the oxy sensor is then to far back and causes light throttle surging when in closed loop if put on and not had a tune done to suit, my did the surging, along with others i know who have fitted them.

Not to mention that i can't even get a socket on the no 5 spark plug to take it out of the motor cause their in the way.

When i installed mine there was no noticeable top end power difference, but i already had hi flow cats and exhaust which is where i think a lot of others have gained from, I do however gain significant power at low rev's.

Thats a fairly standard thing with headers, My Difilipos are like that.

With my Pacies, I can JUST fit the socket on, then I used a shifter to undo it, but someone much smarter than I am suggested using a ring spanner instead of the shifter.

nah mate on mine i can't even get a socket on, and not by a little either.

Back to the extractors again, cause they are hand made using a jig etc. they are all slightly different, and my set i have would have to be the worst made set of pacemakers i have ever seen, i think the must have gotten the set made by the apprentice. I had to spend many hours grinding around the bolts to even get them on in the first place.

I hear ya 5.0 about the bolts not going true due to the flange on the bolt AND the wider inlet pipes going aftermarket headers.
My paccies are the same, had to grind back all the flange on some of the bolts so they would go all the way in to my satisfaction but in saying that chalk and cheese performance wise compared to the originals imo.....

Yep, my trick is send to mechanic with one plug and watch them break another 3 trying to get it in.

For mine (has difilippo's) i can get the socket on but cant use the ratchet, so i use a ring spanner on the spark plug socket, easy as.

As were talking extractors, had my PH4001's fitted, and seem to have a small leak on one side. I can't see any gaskets fitted, is that the norm ?
So If needed, does anyone have a source for gaskets that fit ?
Cheers

nah its not really normal to not run gaskets, especially on extractors like paceys, i've seen sets that look like someone had tried to surface them with an angle grinder.

On a note, be sure to get the AU specific gaskets, cause i got a set of normal windsor gaskets from the local part store for mine to only discover that they block off 5mm at the top of the port.

B2tf - i like that, made me laugh. I could just imagine the mechanic getting pee'd off about it.

As for returning them to pacemaker, it came under the catergory of too much work to take them off by that time i had really cracked it with em, we had already cut the cats off the original set and had them half bolted up before i got really annoyed at them. Now there on and its staying that way.
