Default Nissan GT-R posts new 7m 27s Nurburgring lap time

Quote:
It wasn't long ago that the public spitting contest between Nissan and Porsche regarding the GT-R's lap time around the famed Nurburgring was in the spotlight. Nissan started the tussle by recording an astonishing lap time of 7m 38s around the benchmark circuit and then withered this down to just 7m 29s – a full three seconds faster than the lighter and more powerful Porsche 911 GT2. Porsche struck back with claims the GT-R was only capable of finishing the 12.9 mile circuit in around 7m 54s, and that the model used for the laps must have been modified. Nissan then retaliated by releasing a video of the run as well as presenting the actual car used so that it could be independently examined as completely stock. To lay the matter to rest once and for all, Nissan has run its updated 2010 ‘Series II’ GT-R around the Nurburgring - and the lap times are even better than last year's model. Differences between the 2010 model and the outgoing version include a 5hp (4kW) bump in power, a slightly modified suspension setup, stickier tires, and a reprogrammed gearbox. Driven by Nissan’s head driver and former F1 racer Toshio Suzuki, the GT-R lapped the famous circuit in 7m 27.56s. The car was completely stock, although it was using the optional Rays forged alloy wheels from the SpecV model. Nissan, however, is determined to beat the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, which posted a lap time of 7m 26.4s last year, and will be making another attempt tomorrow.

Very nice, feels nearly like ur in the car (Vette)!

The GT-R is very nice, my cousin actually had his name down for the first batch arriving here in Adelaide around this time of the year. He has some very nice vehicles, including a Dodge Viper so knows his stuff. But was told that after every track day, that ALL oils be replaced (brake, gearbox, clutch, engine), and additionally to this, that every year, the engine needs to be pulled down at Nissan to re-teflon coat (or something like that) various internal components of the engine. Nissan pays for this for the first 3 years, then after that time, its at a cost of approx $4000.00 per year for this alone! So that and the fact that he wasnt going to get his untill the end of the year (second batch apparently) he pulled out.. Nice car but very sophisticated and the ZR1 kills it, i know where my money would be if i had 150+K to spend on my next machine!

Well, given that the gearboxs go bang when launch control is used, and the fact that it wasn't beeing used to get this lap time i'ld say no gearboxes were harmed in the making of this lap time.

Nissan have done a software upgrade to the Launch control to lessing the impact on the gearbox aswell. Still has done a 3.3 0-60 with the gearbox update...

TC has had an histroy of junking boxes. Porcshe owners know about this....

Impressive as it is there will never be a GTR in my garage.

I am not a fan of computers in track cars

That's why I eliminated Evo and Rex and bought an RX-7

One of the first things we did was remove the ABS from the RX-7

Would I like a GT2/3or a ZR1 in the garage?

You betcha.

And their superior shapes/appearance has nothing to do with it.

The Corvette is 250 kg lighter and has 120 more KW, wider tyres and a lower centre of gravity, this makes the GTR a heck of a lot more impressive to me.

I would take one ZR-1 over two GTR's any day of the week.

I would have thought the ZR1 would beat a GTR by a lot more than that. I don't think the ZR1's time is bad, rather the GTR's exceeds all expecations of a car of it's power to weight distribution. I can only imagine what time a GTR V-Spec would be able to do if this time of 7:27 is actually genuine.
