I'm having some intermittent idle issues on my Series 1 Falcon.
When first stated on the morning the car runs fine for a while. Then the idle starts do drop and recover. Power is reduced. This happens when its in N or P or Drive. Air filter is clean. Checked all the piping to the bbm and it all looks clean as well. Put in half a bottle of injector cleaner about 100ks ago and it appears to behave a bit. Anyone have any ideas? I have a spare MAF lying around.. Maybe i should try changing it? Thanks./...

If it's changing when warm, then I would say it is more likely to be O2 sensors, but you could change the TMAP first (it's under the TB on the AUs, not on the firewall like the E series ones were)

Also, have you tried cleaning the ISC valve? It's part of the TB. GK has a good write up on how to clean it.

Also the TB appears to be completely closed when the car is off.

Follow this link to find out more about the IAC/ISC. Bacially, disconnect, and adjust the screw until it idles, then reconnect and you should be good to go.

Adjusted the idle still the same issue. doesnt make a difference if the plug is disconnected either.. Coud it be a fuel pump or should i change the Oxy sensor first?

Sorry Just clarifying When the ICS is connected again the RPM goes up to abt 1000. Doesnt make a difference on the idle issue,,,,
Got a spare at home (used) Do you need any speical sealer or gasket pit in if im changing it?

But if it works as you've described, then I doubt it's the issue. Really sounds like an air leak somewhere. Have you checked the inlet manifold to head bolts? They have a tendency to work loose.

No worries - as you may be able to tell, diagnosing and fixing an idle issue over the internet is hard to do; it's a process of elimination, unfortunately.

I've had the same issue for quite some time now myself. I still don't know what fixes it but can advise what hasn't New spark plugs new leads new o2 sensor injector cleaner cleaning the throttle body air filter oil/oil filter/fuel filter new exhuast (inc cat) new coilpack new injectors ecu retune tighten manifold new (second hand) engine/manifold/throttle body/icv/map new icv new battery So what is left that could be causing this issue? Fuel pump comes to mind but I find unlikely as it seems to hold up on at peak power with 10psi of boost, other thing that has come to mind is a bad earth, but then why would it only happen on rare occasions at idle? I've decided the issue is the car is possessed, only fix is a replacement (or exorcism) |

O2 sensors don't kick in until the car is warm so maybe this is your issue.

I suffered with the same problem for years on a dual fuel.
Changed plugs, oxy sensor, tightened inlet manifold bolts without sucess. Then I came accross a friends petrol Au with a similar problem. On examination I found both engines had leaked coolant from the thermostat housing onto the manifold gasket thus causing a deterioration , above and below. Using a small wire brush I removed the gunk and completely sealed the area with silicon. To date the idle is fine on both fuels !!! |
