Question Abandoned/stockpiled cars at You Yangs

Looking on Google Earth just now, particularly at the You Yangs proving ground, in one corner away from all the buildings and the skidpan there appears to be a little junkyard or whatever, with what looks like a fair amount (say, 100) cars in there.

Just left in no particular order, they're not parked or anything. Some of them look like they have been parked right up against one another and maybe even driven into one another so the people that use/own them obviously don't care about them. Are these test mules of days gone by? Any proving ground insiders care to enlighten us unwashed folk about what they are and what they are doing there? I'm curious.

You never know, there could be some rare species left behind there and no one would know!

EDIT: Here's a Google Maps link so you can see:

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&s...9613&t=h&z=17>

Yah thems the ones

Just to the right of the skidpan and the short straight bit of test track (I assume that bit is the 'deluge' test pit).

The cars in there are mainly white, can't get any better resolution because it's Google Maps but you can zoom in a little.

Looks like theres one bionic blue one in the middle... I notice all the orange cars at the sheds which makes me think this is a few years old. I doubt any of those cars are any older then BA.... as for eventually crushes them!

If you look to the right of the top shed on the screen, theres a fenced area with a few cars lined up.. I woulda assume thats where all the new mules are stored behind the fences so no one can see.. Can you actually drive around the roads nearby? Might make for an interesting road trip on my next melbourne visit.. who knows what u might see in one of the carparks..

They'd be the test mules they are currently working on I guess. As for the others in that little junkyard...who knows.

The Caradvice spy photographers manage to get close to the test track to take photos so perhaps it's possible...

This could be the V12 version, as I’m sure the V10 GTHO wasn’t tested until 2006.

are they even cars?

maybe, if they are, they are there for weather testing - for whatever reason?

someone has to know what the deal is.

I wonder if there are any models that didn't make it to production etc.

Could be some early versions of the BA series etc, if the date taken is around 2004.

It's a junk area. There are things ranging from gutted cars to old tractor trailers and general metal junk. Nothing exciting guys. Sorry.
