Easy way to tell is to approach a salesman and tell him that you believe that it's worth 26k and if he agrees you'll buy it right now. Otherwise walk.

remember MAKE the salesman do the work, your paying him

dont let them push you around, if your not happy with the deal, just walk, he wants to make money, you want to save, its a negotiation.

there is ALWAYS money to move, even if its a dollar, they can lose $40 now or $3000 when its old stock, if they dont budge on price, tinted windows, paint protection, floor mats, bonnet protectors, etc are a nice way for them to seal the deal (genuine stuff of course)

get a feel for the car first, check the log books, the condition of the car inside and out, tell the salesperson to give you 10mins alone, check for usual signs of dodgy repairs or bumps and scrapes, make sure everything works, aircon, heater, keys, remotes, cd player, radio, buttons, check condition of the motor, oil, any leaks, etc

talk him down a bit lower, start at $24k, then say where do we have to be, what are you gonna do for me....

i walked away from a dealer with a price $6k lower than ticket, and still roughly $4-$5k cheaper than most places on my XR8 ute ... i cheated though, i know them all personally, i saw the buy price hahahahaha

good luck

Just be prepared to walk away. If they want the sale, they'll stop you.
When we bought the Peugeot, we were negotiating price and they wanted us to pay for one of the accessories we wanted checked in for free. Turned out to be about $250. They asked "Are you willing to walk for $250?" Our response? "Are you willing to lose a sale for $250?" We got what we wanted.
They'll try to squeeze as much out, but stick firm and you should get what you want.
